Running Dual monitors

Does anybody know if it possible to run dual monitors with two seperate graphics cards? I thought that you needed a graphics card that had dual outputs but I've just read on the web that you can do the same thing with 2 seperate cards. Does anyone know if this is possible. Also the aricle seemed quite dated and didn't mention windows xp. Can this be done?

yup that works.

just install them (usually you need one agp and one tcp card) and it enable it from your display proporties. (you can even use more than 2 cards... I've used 1 dual head and 1 mono head before for 3 monitors total.

(you can't use an integrated sound card as one of the 2 cards.... if you were usuing the integrated card until now, you'll need to disable it from your bios in order to use the 2 new cards)

Forgive me for sounding like an idiot but what is an apg/tgp card and when you say intergrated sound card, does that mean that I would have to use 2 new graphics cards if the existing graphics card was intergrated into my motherboard?????

As I said, I'm not an idiot but I'm not he most clued up when it comes to computers

I've just been told by an IT person that I can only run dual monitors using XP pro. Is there no way of getting around this with XP Home??

i have xp home... it works fine
BLS
yup
works on all operating systems I think.

if you dont have 2 vid cards kicking around (I've got tons of them in my "hardware drawer"), and you have to buy a couple of them, you might be better off going with a dual head card for a similar cost. I bought my matrox dual head (64 meg) for super cheap, super good performance too

the top black slot is for AGP devices, while the white slots are for TCP devices

And yes, that means you can NOT use the mother boards vid card any more. (just as well anyways. integrated is, well, . Other than on board network cards, I try to stay away from integrated stuff

Most good quality AGP graphics cards these days have both VGA and DVI outputs, the DVI output can be adapted for VGA for a cheap and effective dual-monitor setup.

Some motherboards also have multiple AGP slots, so you can even run more than two monitors. Most I've seen is but I guess you could have more.

Aren't those PCI? TCP stands 4 Transmission Control Protocol and is more like for network protocols.
