Ok... i've recently been writing some nice melodies for a trance single i'm working on. however, i realized that everything sounds too centered and in the middle. so i need to start spreading out my parts across the spectrum. obviously some frequencies need to go up, some need to go to the sides etc.

for now, i only have stereo delay on some percussion, but all my synths and synth sounds are kinda in the middle. i've only been using the built in logic plugins, but i was wondering if anyone knew of any other good vst's (other than waves), which are good for rounding (making the sound go around the head sorta), and also spreading out frequencies to the back of the head or sides so to speak.

of course i know you can use automation and pan certain things, but once i start throwing in effects, i want some to sorta just trail all around the head. any suggestions will be appreciated

what comes to mind is to use an LFO to control the pan...

another thing...what's so bad about waves? there's one of the plugins especially for it...Mondomod I think...

add a stereo delay/reverb to the sound with almost no delay time and no feedback and make it slighty dry maybe? that sometimes work. or make two phasors on the lead, one on right channel, one on left channel and make the "change-fade-time" abit diferent on the two. also make sure u dont make the phasors to loud, make it almost dry. this can help to spread the synthlead. i use efex like that alot. in reason theres a efect called unison which also work good. i have no idea what that is and how to find similar efects in other softwares. but i think its kinda a thing that dublicates the sound into more voices and slightly pitch them up and down more and more the wider u get in stereo, makes a cool efect. u probably know all this from before but this was the only thing i could come up with that might help you. or others

aite cool... i'll look into using some phasers, see if that'll help the sound a bit.

also, another question, does anyone generally know where the pads should be placed? i think i might try to spread it out wide and put it in the back of the mix..... bleh hopefully i can figure this out.

Voxengo Stereo Touch and PSP Stereo Pack for some relatively transparent stereo imaging.
