Europe Vs South America

Ok, say you had 11months off from April 2007 to February 2008 what would you choose to do:
A) Arrive in Beijing and do the trans-siberian railway through China, Mongolia and Russia. Go from Moscow done through Eastern Europe (Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria etc) to Turkey. Then across to Greece, Italy, France. Do all that over 3-4 months then spend the remaining time working in England.
OR
B) Go to some country in Central America study Spanish at an intensive language centre for 3 months then ride a pushbike and generally travel for the rest of the 11months through all the Central American and South American countries (well as much as you can in 8 months).
OR
C) Other option. Im open for suggestions
Yes, thats right im planning a big arse fkn trip after I graduate from uni in Jappas trying to work out what would be the craziest, nuttiest, learniest, partiest time I could possibly imagine. What would you do if you had 11months off?

i would go for the first option....but it really depends if you wanna learn a new language or not. Going to China and taking the trans siberian must be a wonderful experience that only a few affortunate people could do in their lifes.
Let's say that traveling south america is fun too, but as a lot of people i know and myself have been there, each country as it's own culture of course, but it's the latin culture in general. IF you go to asian, then russia, then western europe, you will see a lot of cultures.
In all, it's a tough call. I don't know if money is an issue, because it would probably be cheaper to go to latin america..

The money thing is why travelling would only be for 3-4months in option A while I could probably last the whole year with the same money in South America. The reason why I`m considering South America so much is because I`ve been living and travelling in Asia for years so that doesnt interest me too much and Ive been to Europe before but never South America.
Hmmmm too many options dammit! |

Yeah, I agree with Zeiter as far as going to Romania, Russia, Asia, etc. It's a far more expansion of cultures and customs buuuuuuuuuuutttt I say go South America. Personally, I'm deciding the same thing myself. I plan on making a big move in 2007, wanting to study abroad for an extended period of time, in either Europe (Andalucia, Spain) or Latin America. I don't know. When I was in Spain last year it didn't seem tooo much of a culture shock as it seemed more "European" Well yes, it was a culture shock! But not as much as I would assume Peru or Chile, Ecuador, Brazil or Barbados or Honduras, etc. to be. To me, those countries tend to be more indigenous. I would love, loveloveLOVE to spend a year traveling South America. Yes, your money would stretch and it would be more... "bohemian" or Kerouac style taking a pushbike, traveling 8 months. And I think if you were foreign to the language, learning the language while taking in the rugged culture would only be more fulfilling. Plus! What more could you ever want of life? Standing on top of Machu Picchu, screaming at the top of your lungs!! with your.. pushbike at your side. There just seems to be something mystical of Latin America versus China, Mongolia, etc. in my opinion anyways. I'm awaiting Dino's response as he'll probably help me in my decision also!
Edit/ I just now saw your mention of partying. Brazil, Rio > all else. As far as I've heard. :crazy: |

Sweet we could get some sort of TA backpacking through SA thingy happening. All meet up in certain cities on certain days and inbetween that we go off on our own ways =]
When are you going Ripped Bag?
I wonder if there is anyone that has actually done this sort of thing on here. |

I've lived in south america for 6 years and traveled all throughout central and south america.
I can answer most of your questions.. |

In any case you should take a motorcycle. Its just a precaution, plus its faster. Take a look at the movie "The Motorcycle Diaries", its Che Guevara's trip thoughout South America.

-If you come to San Salvador, don't go to downtown :nervous: . Its like Survivor in there or something, there "Historical cente" is pretty small and the streets have been taken by markets. |
