Hey all,
I have been studying a little and I read that there is a way to connect two computers to 'farm' CPU power from one computer. This way certain tasks are routed to the second computer and it is possible to run more VST's or whatever. The next chapter discribes that is is possible to exchange MIDI and AUDIO information from one computer to the next, so I can have a VST rack running on one comp to serve the other comp. But my goal is to farm CPU directly so I can stick with one interface.
The book doesn't discribe in full how to do it and I was wondering if anybody had experience with this method. Is there a simple way to do it?
I have two computers;
1. Dual Core Pentium D 2*2.8 GHz
USB2, firewire and network connection
2. Pentium 3 1.7 GHz
USB1, network connection
Do I need any specialized software to accomplish this. Like an OS that dedicates my slower computer to serving the faster one?
kind regards,

What you are looking for is a program called FX Teleport.
"FX Teleport is a unique and revolutionary DAW networking solution. From now on it's not only possible, but also very easy, to use as many computers as you want for your DAW. Just launch your favorite VST host on one machine and VST instruments and FX on the others, and enjoy working on your audio processing farm. You can even dedicate a whole computer to your favorite VST synth."

Also just remembered.. there's a VST called Wormhole by Plasq.
"Wormhole2 is for audio professionals and musicians, allowing routing of audio between machines on a network. Now you can make use of all the processing power in your studio. For example; set aside a machine for complex instruments or effects, route audio out to it, then back into your favorite DAW. Or route audio between your PCs and Macs to get the best of both worlds. Or share audio between laptops on stage." |
