wtf, what do you have to show to get a student discount? I just started buying the metro pass like 2 months ago...
I thought that the TTC student ID was only for high school students, and lower. |
I know that at UofT they sell them at the Student Admin Council Office.
It doens't work like the highschool student pass (where you show them your student card, get a special TTC student ID and buy student tokens)
It only works for metropasses (not individual tokens)which you have to get them from your school. Also, it looks like a reg. metropass - you just buy it at a discount. |

BTW - this fare hike is BOGUS!! WTF?!?! :wtf:  :wtf:
I don't even use the TTC regularly and I'm even outraged!
Our transit system is totally lacking compared to other around the world.
And don't even get me started on Mississauga transit either :whip: |

| quote: | New Subway Design in 2009? Public Consultation This Year
During the January meeting of the Toronto Transit Commission, Commissioners were treated to a Powerpoint presentation on possible designs for new subway cars to be bought for 2009-2010. The TTC is looking to replace 234 aging cars and its representatives paid a visit to four properties in Hong Kong and China to see how six-car trainsets with “wide inter-car open gangways” operated. The visit seems to have TTC planners leaning towards bringing in six-car articulated trainsets into the fleet. By allowing passengers access to the whole train, the TTC not only cuts the cost and complexity of its trainsets (by reducing the number of cabs available), but it increases the train-sets’ capacity, allowing crowds to distribute more evenly through the whole train.
The TTC hopes to issue a request for proposals this month, to be followed up with a website inviting public comment on the possible new designs by April. A full-scale mock-up for public viewing could be available by June, with a contract awarded this October. The pictures you see here are an artist representation of what the mock-up might look like.
One comment that I’m sure is going to be made is the lack of forward-facing seating. This was a strong complaint when the original mock-up of the T1 car was produced. The TTC argues that perimeter (side-facing) seating allows the cars to carry more people during crush loads, and makes the cars easier to navigate and thus to evacuate in an emergency, but many people find side-facing seats uncomfortable inducers of motion sickness. It will be interesting to see if the TTC considers these complaints when the public gets its first look at the new cars’ mock-up.
These pictures were made available by transit enthusiast and activist David Fisher

Only certain universities / colleges are eligible for the discounted student metropass if they can guarantee a certain number of them will be purchased.
(Essentially bulk discounts) |
Ok I know large companies also do this. My room mate works for a company which gets him a discounted pass, but he has to buy it 2 weeks before hand. |

yeah it's rediculous already. A metropass isn't even worth the use of to work and back once a day for a month anymore.
The service is overcrowded, undermaintained, and essentially too small in scope to adequitely service the city.
I'm a huge supporter of doing anything that will expand our subway system, increase bus route, and fix the failing infrastructure. I don't care if the rates go down or not, but the people at all levels of government have to get their together and fix our public transit. God knows our highway system is even worse making Toronto 0/2 on these critical things.
Too bad the PC won the election, now we're stuck with no representation in the federal government, and as a result our needs will probably fall on deaf ears. But like the analysts say 'as Toronto goes, so does Canada...' |
