I personally like VBR a lot better than CBR be it 192, 256 ect...
Get a program called LAME (the newest version 1.91) and when setting it up, make sure you put this phrase into the command line.
--r3mix
or
--alt-preset standard
your music will sound amazing and the file sizes will be nice and small (although not as small as CBR for obvious reasons) |

192 CBR works great for vinyl singles, but may be a bit lossy for CDs. VBR will get you smaller file sizes for the same quality in general. For details check out

Always use Lame to encode and some version of mpg123, lame or their derivatives to decode. Then you'll be happy.

VBR by Lame encoder is the best one if u have up-to-date mp3 players, but if u have older players, u should use CBR. For example Winamp 2.65 or older don't recognize the VBR coded mp3s until the player was updated to more recent one..
Normally u won't hear the difference between CBR 192+kbps or VBR, because VBR tries to encode the file with an optimal bitrate.
I use Audiograbber 1.81 with Lame 1.90 and VBR encoding and i'm very pleased with this. |

| I havn't experimented with them to tell the differnce...but for now i will stick with CBR....i think Winamp may cause a problem with VBR...but not sure... |

My mp3 discman can't play VBR. So easy choice for me.
I stay with the CBR
