New gig for me!

After being a lazy ass for quite a while, I decided to hop down to a *banquet hall* and talked (met) to the DJ the first time. He plays some 'persian music' along with house and techno, and I play house/techno. So we arranged it so that next Sat. I will play with him...somewhat of a back to back thing. I gave him a demo cd which he played for the croud (opening hours) and he and some other girl, said they liked the mixing...which was done around 4/5 months ago. (I.e. I've improved from when I made that cd)

Only thing that has got my nerves going now is:

1. I have ONE week to prepare!!!
2. I can't set out a pre-selected tracklist like my first gig that I played, because of these 'back to back' phenomena
3. He plays from 10 pm to 2 am... I am NOT used to mixing 4 hours straight.
4. I have to bring my own two TTs and records (because he only spins cds, and I only spin vinyl)
5. I don't know how to use that damn (I think it was a Numark dual cd player) cd player. Cue? Buttons? Lights? Wheel? Wtf?
6. How I'm going to bring all this crap from my house to the event. (I don't drive, I'm young, I can't really call someone I know to drive me there, can I? Taxi is too expensive, and public transit...out of the question)
7. The crowd. :)

Well, now I have to buy two flight cases, and figure all this out, as well as calm my nerves...all in a week!

PS: They have no MONITORS. :whip:

Good luck and have fun!

As I said it is a banquet hall, not a CLUB. It is better than nothing, and I want to get out there, so better this than nothing, right?

Anywho, they still have a decent lighting system and speaker system (except for monitors)

Also, I don't know if this crowd will like house. ...It is somewhat of a persian crowd, although the dj was playing house when I walked in.

Thanks. Do you think it is worth it to buy a flight case if I take a cab?

if you still have the TTs boxes bring them. thats what i did for my gig on NYE. flightcases are useful tho and are definatly a good invest for future

Mum and Dad?
Take your own stereo and hook it up to the mixer and set that up to use as monitors.
Have fun. If you up, who cares? Like you say it's not a club, and it's your first gig. Why stress about it. Any mistakes will help you learn anyway. Just don't take the needle off the wrong record.

Hehe, not my first gig mate. :p

(Had two gigs before this one)

And, we don't have car insurance. Yea, I'll be spinning at a 19+ event.

About the needle thing though, trust me, I don't want that to happen to me again.

Just keep your head cool, and everything will work out fine. Tell him that you never played on the mixer which you will be using, and that you'd like to show up an hour or so earlier to be able to get a bit more comfortable with their setup.

Sok sikert! :)
