Using a TV as a computer monitor

Anything specific I should be looking for in a TV when I want to use it as a computer monitor?

I mainly play video games and watch movies on it and already have a compatible video card for TV/HD out.

PS: My pricerange is rather low, is it even worth it or will it look like ?

It'll look like . Unless you've got an HDTV or you're ONLY going to watch movies on your TV from the computer, don't bother.

It looks like sex on mine.

It really depends on what type of games you want to play.

First person shooters, forget it. It will be smooth, but the detail will be crap. about 1/4 of your computer detail.

If you are playing racing or adventure games, it will just look like xbox or ps2 if you get the set up right.

an HDTV is your best bet. They are expensive but worth it.

I got my 27" HDTV off ebay for $300, i love it.

So if I did grab an HDTV (nothing drastic, just like a 23" one) would games still look like or would there be other problems I'd encounter?

Is it worth it overall?

there are definitly other problems. If you play xbox or xbox360 it on it, no problems at all.

It also depends on if you want to get an LCD or the old style glass TVs.

Doesn't sound like it's worth it for the money then. I play XBOX but not all that often and it would only be a minor improvement over this monitor which is 17" I believe.

On another note, should the signal using HDMI look better than component?

I've used my 5 year old rear-projection 52" TV for the last 5 years as a monitor on occasion. I hooked up an old PIII833Mhz PC with an ATI video card with s-video output, wireless keyboard with built-in trackball. I used this dedicated PC just to run DIVX movies I dowloaded, and DOOM and some other PC games. It's gone now. It's not great for typing and such, as characters are fuzzy. It's great for movies and games. Most TVs have RCA inputs so most computers with S-video or RCA inputs will do fine. Other than that, you'll need a HDTV compatible ot hi-res TV for computer use for normal text. It's too fuzzy without a good screen. Right now, I'm using a Compaq NC6000 laptop, and has built-in svideo (most new laptops do now). I'm in front of my bigscreen now, but like to websurf on the lazyboy at the same time. I only hook up my laptop for Divx movies only now.

yes unless it is being converted somewhere.

if your tv has those inputs, everything should look stunning.

do some research to see if your tv actually the singal processors and not just the input jack.
