software help needed.

Hey
I have a question for you mixer/computer pros.
Is there a software to help boost or edit the sound levels of a mix after it is completed?I made a mix for myself that i really enjoy, but sometimes the gain makes a little distortion or certain levels are not high enough for my liking.Any feedback is appreciated.

with sound forge u can edit every part that is too high
with something like cubase and the good plugins like a limiter, u could record without bothering to get such distortion cause the limiter u set at a certain db level doesnt allow higher volumes... |

Post rendering is a bitch, try to practice maintaining levels within a mix, otherwise you'll spend a great deal of time mixing everything down to your db prefrence.
I use steinberg wavelab, it's as easy as highlighting the wave and going to the track Normalization option, get the peak volume for your whole mix and work with that, normalize each track as you go along.
Or you can just re-mix yourset, just be careful levelin everything, spend time making sure their right before starting a mix. |

another way is to record at a low volume, then compress the hole thing
but as moevalith pointed, u should work on getting ure mix tight on all aspects including volume |

By compressing you mean converting to mp3?
as far as getting the mix and levels tight im trying to teach myself that using my friends cdj's.(he sucks more than me lmao)Its just a hobby and i just like having mixes that are custom and weird for my own listening purposes.(ie.. electro and tribal flavors, its hard to find sets like that and i really dont like what lawler has been doing.
Once again merci:D I just hate having something sound good when i do it and when i listen to it post mix the distortion from the gain creates distortion id rather not hear. |

compression, to explain it simply, is a way to put more power in a sound, it includes volume but its not only that |
