well i do 3 things.. im totally anal about it tho.
1 - i use discwasher to clean off any fingerprints or crusty stuff on the record.
2 - i coat the records with gruvglide when i first get them. the coat gets rid of the static and the pads collect allot of the dirt off the records.
3 - i swipe the record with a soft brush every few plays to make sure the dust doesn't collect.
