use non-spherical needles for recording?

| was wondering if anyone has used other needles besides spherical ones for recording and if it made a worth while difference. |

| If you've already used sphericals on your records, don't change to elliptical. That will tear them up. You are only supposed to use one needle shape over the life of your records. |

Why?
If you're ripping the vinyl to your computer, you still have to keep the vinyl for the legal right to play the files.
Anyway, if you've been using spherical, then use spherical. |
