uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh i think you should try editing your post because thats a verrrrrrrry confusing read. |

it is not and it is simple.
Take a high ratio
and a low threshold.
A reasonable release time for the compressor to stop compressing.
This way reverb will be almost inaudible when compressing the bass and it will come up after compressing the bass. That's it. |

I'm also curious about that. Do you mean sidechain ducking the fx-bus with the bass? Which reverb do you mean? The one of the bass itself? |

it is simple.
You have a this chain:
Synth >> Reverb >> Compressor >> Output
you put a decent ammount of reverb on the bass, and compress it quite firm. This way the reverb is being pushed out when the bass plays, but when the bass sound has ended the reverb will pop up as the compressor is stopping to compress because the volume is beneath the threshold. |

it's called GATED REVERB, almost all decent fx units/ synths have that kind of reverb. And yeah, there is a compressor used as well...:) |

i was talking about gated reverb one day but got taken off track.
so what is it really? cos in reason the reverb unit has gated reverb.
in context to reasons reverb unit if you can explain how it works!
what happens to the sound when it reaches the threshold?
hope it makes sense!

you mean to apply this compressor to the reverb only right? how do i do that in cubase.. a reverb fx channel with a send to the bass? ... and apply the compressor to the fx channel? |

No sends needed. |

i can still hear the reverb alittle.. i thought the idea was to compress the reverb by itself and side chain it with the bass to duck it out while bass is playing, thats how wandii's preset was i think |

the gated reverb is produced cutting off the time before of response of a "reverberator". Reverberation is produced after a certain time after the sound - gate time. Some fx units allow to controll how to cutt off that time, abrupt or slowly. Unfortunately i don't use Reason, dunno its reverb unit to explain exactly. Gate threshold reports on volumes of your sound. It's more difficult to explain what happens than to hear if you play with thres :) |

That's possible too, I never use sidechain though. |
