Sorry for such a long-winded thread, but it's our first trip down there, and we're both excited about it, but just wanted to know a couple of things, and whom better to ask than fellow TAs...
Any of your help is greatly appreciated.
N3wb question, but why are there two separate tickets for Ultra? We ended up getting a pair of both, but does the event carry on in the same grounds? and if so, how do they check who's supposed to be there and who's not...
Armin at Space, it's happening on the night I land there. Will tickets be available before hand, online perhaps...?
We found a hotel that is not on south beach unfortunately, but was almost twice as cheap. its called Golden Glades Conference Inn. ANyone know anything about it? How much of a drive is it to beaches? Are there tolls?
Also, is it worth driving to Ultra and Space, or is the better option taking a cab?
Thanks! |

Ultra and Carry on are 2 seperate events in 2 seperat, but close by locations. You will need to wait in line at both unfortunately.
Not sure about tickets. They usually sell a 3 or 5 day "space pass" that gives you slightly better line privelages.
I dont know where the location of that hotel is.. personally I wouldnt be in the condition to drive anywhere after one of these parties, but if you dont party hard then you should be fine. |

you will be able to buy individual tickets for space events online. dunno when, but sometime before wmc actually starts i hope.
golden glades is pretty far from downtown/south beach. driving will be a pain in the ass (miami drivers are horrible) and a cab ride that far is fairly expensive. golden glades to south beach according to mapquest is 15.5 miles and 22 minutes. golden glades to downtown (space) is 11.2 miles and 15 minutes. now them s are always wrong, so if you take a cab expect to pay a lot. downtown to south beach or visa versa is 4.9 miles and 10 minutes.
with a cabbie, south beach --> downtown usually runs $15-20. so you can prob expect a lot more from golden glades to downtown or south beach. |

| Yea the golden glades hotel its on North Miami .. if you were to be taking a Cab back and forth and back and forth, I would just rent a car. |

Yeah, I thought cabbing would be an expensive bitch, so we did actually rent a car. Some small , but gotta save money. Rented a convertible mustang for a day trip to key west.
What about the hotel though? Is it a decent place to stay? The neighbourhood? |

right now hotels are quite expensive, the best is to book in jan. The best is to get a hotel off Collins Ave, this is the street WMC will be held off of. My girl booked us a hotel through expedia, and we got a great deal. Round Trip Airfare, Limo Service to/from Airport/Hotel, and Hotel for $488 per person.
I was in Miami last month, and it was expensive for a hotel room for one night. I was forced to pay $250 for one night, so $488 is a damn good bargan. Check this out:

Get something on Collins Ave, your save money in Tolls. The Tolls in Florida are very expensive. Last month when I was there I paid over $60+ in tolls. The damn tolls on the Miami Toll Pike can kill someone, damn thing was $18.50 one damn way! |

| We booked through expedia as well, and it was booked about two months ago. Couldn't find anything on south beach, everything there is ridiculously expensive. We got a pretty good deal thouhg, I think. it remains to be seen what kind of neighbourhood its in, and the quality of the hotel, and what not. Its the tolls that I'm really afraid of. i don't want to end up paying a load every time I go somewhere. That, and I need to find some good roadmaps of the place. |
