Hey Guys... could someone explain me what is Direct Drive TTs ??
DJTJ
It's where the motor is in direct contact with the platter, rather than via an elastic belt as in belt driven TTs.
CarlosM
ok.. thanks...and.. if i want to buy a TTs for Spinin... what would be better.. Direct Drive or Non-DirecDrive??,,, what are the benefits of DirectDrive??
DJTJ
Direct drive is better. WIth belt drive, when you hold the record the platter generally stops underneath the record. For mixing, you want it to keep spinning, and direct drive does this.

eh, not really...
if you buy cheap direct-drive the platter will still stop running just like in belt-driven ones.

For instance I bought Numark TT-1520, and even though it's supposedly "direct-drive" the platter stops when I handle the vinyl. It's not that bad in reality, I can hold the record by the edge and lift it up just a little bit, and keep the platter spinning, but the motor is not very strong at all. Also, there aren't any problems if the record is thin or very light.

Point is, cheap direct-drive TT's are similar to belt-driven ones in terms of torque. Still, I would recommend direct-drive because the technology there makes the TT's more durable, even if you bought a cheap pair.

Like I said I recently bought Numark TT-1520 ($150 a piece) and I'm pretty satisfied with them, despite the small torque problems.

Thanks.. now im uderstanding More with You Opinions Guys.. Thanks.

belt drives are bad for spinning, because they use a belt that attaches a motor to the platter... it causes low torque, and the belt can stretch or compress, causing variance in pitch when trying to beatmatch, and the belt does wear out ... i'd imagine with alot of back-cueing and stuff...

but beware of cheap direct drives, because a top-quality belt drive could probably out-perform a cheap direct drive... anyways, you basically get what you pay for, so there's no magic super quality deck that comes for a low price, otherwise everyone would be using them.
