This interview didn't really get interesting until about halfway through, at which point Sandoval tells Alan Colmes that the U.S. should not have a military. I have never seen Colmes so flabbergasted. I'd love to see Sandoval retract what he said given how asanine it is, but given the conviction with which he said it, he may find himself up creek without a paddle (or a gunship for that matter!)

he was unprepared to say the least.
he would have made a much more effective argument if he had used the tragedy that happened in 1989 on the USS Iowa. after turret 2 blew up and killed over 40 young sailors the Navy, in complete idiocy, blamed a quarrel between two "gay lovers" that caused it. turns out the Navy may have fabricated the story.
in any event, it seems that the people of San Francisco would get a lot more mileage from that than just taking the nearsighted hippie stance.
i got to take a tour of her when she was moored in NUWC Newport and i personally would love to see her smack dab in the middle of Fisherman's Wharf. |

Coming from a country that has eroded it's military to almost NOTHING, I can tell you that NO military is the most obtuse suggestion ever...
It's bad enough that we hide under the cloak of the U.S., which really isn't that much a problem for me personally as long we don't abuse it.
A country's sovereignty is only as strong as its resolve to back it up when the chips are down... |

^^^ I personally think it's a brilliant money-saving strategy for Canada. The U.S. is never going to attack you. Never.
And the U.S. will never let you be invaded by a foreign power that's hostile to you and us, your allies.
Your military can go on permament holiday if they want to. Retire to the Bahamas. Live it up. :D |

See, that's a problem.
The hypocrisy is that we know this yet our fabulous Liberal (not liberal) leaders were content in mouthing off all things American for the sake of wooing the anti-American loafers here.
For some reason, our Canadian culture has slowly accepted the fact that being Canadian is NOT being American and since America has a big military force, we, for the sake of being "Canadian", should not have one.
After all, we can have our cake and eat it too with the same global recognition as the Americans but with no real way to back up any global issues that need a helping hand.
We've become the little horn-rimmed glasses nerd that hides behind our big brother and shakes our fist from there.
I'm so glad our votes counted towards a new governemnt that actually cares about our military and is doing something to fix the situation.
Don't get me wrong. I love Canada with all my heart.
I'm just globally embarrased when we're asked by foreign countries for help and we can't provide properly...:sadgreen: |
