Windows Defender (Beta 2) is a free program that helps protect your computer against pop-ups, slow performance, and security threats caused by spyware and other unwanted software. It features Real-Time Protection, a monitoring system that recommends actions against spyware when it's detected, and a new streamlined interface that minimizes interruptions and helps you stay productive.

maybe thats just MS's way of telling us that Firefox has been bought out?
lol |

That's because Firefox is your default browser. Only Windows Update requires IE, not the download of individual files.
If I recall, I had a problem running the plugin throught Firefox though, so I DLed MSAS beta 1 through IE. |

so the images shown there depend on what browser you're using then?
cool...
oh, and i heard this MS Anti-Spyware program is actually really good. Is that true? I just ran it and it didn't find anything |

Yeah, it is, but it's still not acceptable to use with no other spyware scanners. I scan every few weeks with AdAware and Spybot as well.
I recommend that, and use Defender as a constatnly running app with scheduled weekly scans. I bought SpySweeper with my PC, so I use that as my background app, and schedule weekly scans with that and Defender. That allows me to be a bit more lax with my manual scans.
If it found nothing then you're pretty clean, and it probably means you don't use IE much. I use it for my fantasy hockey, since Firefox sucks for the liveupdates. Most spyware comes through via JavaScript, and when you run the ******** extension for Firefox, you actually see how many different sites supply/demand information in order for a site to operate. |

| Yea I only use IE to access my hotmail account through msn messenger. And I found that ******** extension for Firefox to be completely useless, cause it doesn't really do anything. I'll block some sort of script and it all it takes is closing the browser, re-opening it and loading a particular page again and the script is back. Myspace is a perfect example. I blocked half the on that page, closed FF, went back on and everything that was supposed to be blocked was loading up again. |

LOL...I've never had that happen. It blocks all JS by default, and you click the S in the status bar to allow from the ground up what you need to. Did you have it set to allow JS globally?
I wonder if it was just a corrupt relationship between the extension and FF....hmmm. |

p.s. I'm ditching my Hotmail in the coming week...I'm so pumped.
Not only am I ditching Hotmail for Gmail, but Outlook Express for Thunderbird as well. Yes! |
