How well do you know your buying etiquette?

Ok here's the situation.
My buddy Jason's (some of you might remember him joining us a System Soundbar) roommate is moving to Montreal in the next couple of months.
She received a fridge as a gift just this past summer and is thinking of selling it to me instead of touting it to Montreal.
The fridge info is here (it's roughly $530 bf taxes):

Now, knowing that it was given to her as a gift AND that it's second hand what does one offer?? :conf:
I don't want to low-ball her or offer something insulting but at the same time, I sure as hell am NOT paying anything close to the full price.
Any suggestions? |

| I say used fridge depending on usage (i.e. has been plugged in since she bought it) and the amount of stains in the fridge $300. $320 if she offers a case of beer to put in it after the deal is done. :D |

| why dont you just ask her what she would be happy with? |

Why not ask her what she wants for it - compare it to what else is on the market and if they're close - buy it.
If they're not close - show her the market rate, offer to buy it at that and if not - let her know you'll hold off on buying it elsewhere for 4 weeks (so she to try and sell it for her asking price) and if she doesn't sell it you'll take it at market price (or she can keep it). |

Finding the market price has been fun so far...albeit I just started looking.
I'll have to find something comparible at least so I have something to base my inital offer upon.
$300 did cross my mind though...
She's definately going to want to hear my offer first before suggesting anything herself because Jason was already asking me on her behalf tonight.
I do like the idea of making the inital offer and waiting for 4 weeks so she can try to sell it at whatever she had in mind initially.
That's fair and I like it :) |
