Speakers.

I was thinking of getting some really loud speakers but I have no where to start. I have a budget of 300$ and looking for something roughly 500 watts RMS.

Thanks

Well 500watts might be a bit much to ask out of $300 system at decent quality. I have the M-Audio LX4 2.1 system and must say it really kicks ass!

I got mine for $270, and they're loud enough to scare my neighbors without sacrificing any of that crystal clear sound you need to throw down perfect sets.

i got the KRK RP5. nothing close to 500watts but the damn thing is awesome.

if thats not enough you can go with the KRK RP8. i highly suggest these monitors

For that kind of money just get smaller, better quality speakers...like Klipsch bookshelf speakers. They get pretty loud and sound great. You will need some more cash to get the BIG stuff. Maybe check local classifieds for someone selling their setup. Maybe a lowball on something like that could yield a good result.

Around here there is Logitech Z5500 (I think thats it) for 300$CND and that is 505 watts RMS in total...

But thanks for the suggestions, I will look into them.

I'm looking for the same thing, speakers that I could use for house parties. One of my DJ friends that spins hip hop recommended the JLB EON 10 G2. From what I can tell online, they look pretty solid, although they are a bit pricey ($700 for the pair). 125 W driving the speakers, which will be pretty loud. Or you could try the Eon 15 G2, which has 300 W RMS driving them. Another option which is a lot cheaper are the Peavey PR-15. Those handle 400 W RMS and 800 peak. My natural choice would be to go with the Peavey... but something tells me that the JBL might be better in the long run. Also, the JBL are powered speakers, while the Peavey would require an amp.

I'm going to my local guitar center tomorrow hopefully to look at them. I'll report back with any that I find.

So how much Watts RMS would be good enough for a house party or a large sized room (gym size)

it's not about watts. its about decibels and actual output and the number of watts you need depends on how well the speakers you get translate those watts into actual sound vibrations. it's a spec called "sensitivity" when it comes to speakers.

in all reality, you might be able to RENT a rig that'll bump a gym for $300, but good luck actually purchasing one. $300 might get you the cases, cables and speaker stands. nevermind the amps, processing gear or speakers.

if you want to start building a professional PA rig that can bump a large room, get ready to do some serious shopping unless you have money to waste. on the cheap, all sorts of equiptment can be found. bands/DJs giving up, clubs closing down, ebay, craigslist, social contacts, etc etc.

i've never paid even close to retail for any of my stuff. it's all used, all came to me on the cheap, and it took almost 2 years to get a decent rig put together without going broke.

Heh, I know nothing about speakers

So what do you all recommend for something like a house party?

Someone mentioned them before, but I really like my JBL EON-15s. I got the pair for only $800, which seems to be a pretty good deal.

Mackie SRM450s are also really popular, but more expensive than the JBLs.

Keep in mind that you also have to buy cables and stands. Both of the models I mentioned are active, so no amp is necessary.

JBL Eons. Very pricy and if they get damadged in any kind of way they coast even more to get fixed.
I baught yamaha speakers. They are not the clearest quality buy who needs crystal clear quality for a house party. They sound quite good.
I got them for a fraction of the price because they where discontinued and display models. I have a europower behringer amp. Dont listen to what people say about behringers audio stuff. Its a great amp for its price. Iv run this thing for hours on boiling hot days and never had a single problem. Go to shops and look for speakers that sound good to you.

if your looking for 'loud' speakers for non monitoring applications...

ebay. get some home made ones from ebay if ya can. with £300 its not worth getting anything made by a company.

you ll know a decent pair. if the woodworking is good and they are made from plywood then the components will probably be decent too. if they re made of mdf or chipboard then the cheapskate who built them will probably have used cheap components aswell

then get a second hand amp with the money you got left.
