We've had interns that have lived in the ones around 3rd Ave. and 12th St. It's close to Union Square and the 4-5 train, which you'll be using to commute to the financial district if you live on the east side. I live a few avenues further east on 14th and work a few blocks from Goldman and my commute is 25-30 minutes, so yours would be 15-20.
At Union Square, you can also get the N, R, W, and Q trains which go towards the west side up to Central Park.
I think the people that worked at my firm who have lived there seemed to like it. It's a younger area and there's lots of things to do, whether it's bars, shooting pool, movies, sitting in the park, shopping, etc. |
