Without a doubt, hands down the worst night of music I have ever seen out in my life... Review to come, but in summary, every single performer who played this evening was absolutely horrible (except for Bam Bam) and the lack of professional conduct/preperation at the club was equally horrid.

I wouldn't go see BT again if I were paid.

Rob,

I'll give you $200 to skip glaude tonight and go down to soundbar to watch BT.
UWM
Hahaha, I got the text messages this morning and LOL'd.

Tony sorry I missed your call again my phone got silenced somehow, but I'm a huge fan of that idea. It sounds like a winner!

worst. show. ever.

nothing about the show last night went well. i think my conversation with Rob right before we left pretty much sums up the entire night...

me: "BT's set just isn't programmed well at all"
Rob: "wait, there's a program?"
me: "no, tonight has no program whatsoever"

basically, everything that could go wrong... went wrong. terribly wrong. the opener DJs were the most pathetic excuses for "disc jockeys" i've ever heard. i don't think Juan McLean even mixed any tracks. he'd play a song, then fade it out and bring in another song. it took them 15 minutes just to switch the setup between the 2 openers. i've seen Rob set up his entire setup in under 5 minutes... on drugs. the sound system at the club was pure and it was way too loud; my ears are still ringing today. Woody McBride was playing stuff that i think i would have heard at a rave 5 years ago. BT started his set off with the acapella from Jay-Z "Can I Get A..." - now I dunno what he was thinking starting his set off with a ghetto-ass hip hop song that's 7 years old, but it was a really really bad idea. the only song that i actually enjoyed hearing was M.A.N.D.Y. vs Booka Shade - Body Language (i believe Juan McLean played it)... and i don't even like that song that much.

Milwaukee really freaks me out. i feel like 75% of the time i go out to a club in Milwaukee, everyone there looks like they're strung out on coke, and the dance moves are resemblant of a private club for retards or a weight-loss DVD that teaches you dance moves on how to drop 40 lbs.

i have nothing positive to say about the entire night except it was worth the $5 just to laugh at how terrible everything went (and to hang out with sweet TAs which is always fun regardless of how good or bad a show might be). i had pretty low expectations, but last night was wayyyy way worse than i ever expected.

and now you guys understand why i never go out in Milwaukee. :nervous:

Hahahahaha.... I just posted my review on Milwaukee nights (the ony post I've ever made on that forum) just to see who I could irritate, but here's the text of it:

Last night was hands down the worst single night out at a club I have ever experienced.

Who was it that Bam Bam was playing alongside, Woody McBride? Well regardless, he was abysmal. If it wouldn't have been for Bam Bam's live percussion I would have fallen asleep, it was that bad. Not only was it a laptop set, but it was a laptop set that was an utter bore with simplistic mixing and the most boring and predictable track selection I could imagine. When you're going to be a laptop "DJ" you better be using that laptop to do something I couldn't hear from a real DJ, and from the looks of it, this guy might as well have put on a mix cd. I was astounded that anyone would even consider allowing this "DJ" to play out.

Juan Mclean was equally as bad, and how on earth anyone could justify bringing him in from New York is beyond me. Now before everyone starts saying "Oh but his records were skipping," I'll address that in a minute, but when he did try to "mix" it was awful. His EQ's were so far off it made my ears bleed, and his decision to just kill tracks and start up another one in it's place as opposed to mixing at all showed poor form and a complete lack of professionalism. I see why he's playing in Milwaukee, I can't think of a single respectable clubber with half a clue in a real city that would put up with this garbage for more than 10 minutes.

And finally, BT himself. What can I say? He pandered to the Milwaukee crowd and played what was one of the worst sets I've ever heard in my life from a supposed "superstar" DJ. His set was nothing but annoying loops and bad hip hop acapellas with a dash of random effects thrown in that were more an annoyance than anything else. Utter rubbish. The funniest part of the night to me had to have been the MC saying "In any other town, you'd pay 20-30 bucks to go see this guy, but not in Milwaukee!!!! Thank you Camel for bringing world class music to Milwaukee!" HA! If we were in Chicago for BT tonight, we, along with half the rest of the club, would have gotten in for free because Pure actually knows how to promote a night.

And speaking of promotion/organization/club management, the terrible job done by the staff at the Ladybug club was just the icing on the cake. Not only was there 20 minutes (20 minutes!) of no music because apparently no one had a clue how to take down a laptop DJ setup and put together a REAL DJ setup, but once it was all together it sounded like garbage and the records skipped almost every minute. I don't care if it was because of people dancing on the floor in front of the DJ, there's no way this would have happened in a legitimate venue that was accustomed to having DJ's play. It's not as if the floor was packed and banging during Juan's set anyway (It was basically emptying out more and more by the minute), so basically it seemed like any vibration in the floor at all caused the record to skip, hardly a sign of a professional setup or the kind of preparation you'd expect to see from a club. Beyond that, the MC they had basically whoring Camel cigarrettes all night was a joke and actually more annoying than any MC I've ever heard, especially because he clearly hadn't a clue as to what he was doing. And to top it off, the absolutely laughable "Go Go" dancers who looked like they were bored to tears and just wanted to go home just made me laugh that much more.

At least my expectations were exceptionally low going into the night, though it is just hilarious to me that even with my low expectations somehow Milwaukee managed to put together an even worse event than I could imagine.

:p

heh... here's just a little bit more of what i posted over on MN...

"if Juan MacLean plays the same terrible kind of set in Chicago tonight as he played last night in Milwaukee, i wouldn't be surprised if people started throwing empty beer bottles at him and yelled at him to get off the decks. even the WORST DJs i've seen in Chicago and other larger cities sounded like Sasha & Digweed compared to that guy."
DJ RJT
The desire of the Milwaukee Nights kids to try and defend the "scene" in Milwaukee is one of the funniest things I have ever read in my life... I am beyond glad that none of these people know me IRL because I am getting myself into all sorts of trouble on those forums right now... :p

I hope I meet some of these kids out at Mantra tonight...
