Should I worry?? HEEEELP!!!

I am spinning this Saturday, but I just found out that the club
hasn't any turntables! :( Only cdjs!!! :( :(
This will be my first time touching cd player to mix, should I worry?
I am used only at my mk2s... Can you give any tips? Is it easy? Will I make it? |

Theoretically, the technique is similar. What's different is that you will be pressing a lot of buttons, instead of using your hands.
I suggest that you at least "get your feet wet".
For example, do you have two portable or just normal (without pitch control) CD players at home? Hook them up to your mixer and try a few transitions. Of course, since there's no pitch control and no instant-start, they will be crappy, but that will give you some cueing experience in matching it for at least 5-10 sec. for example.
Professional CD players for DJ's will have pitch control and instant-start. (Instant-start is where you can start the CD immediately, with no delays, as soon as you press Play; most normal CD players have a delay, if you haven't noticed.) |

yell at the club owners. what kind of club doesnt have turn tables? and where are you gonna get your music if ur music is all vinyl? ask em about bringing your tts or something.

dazzed : it's just a small club (200 ppl capacity) Usually plays house/pop... I am special guest for progressive/trance. I can't get my TTs there since the club is out of the town and can't carry heavy stuff... I will rip some of the vinyls into cds and burn lots of mp3 into cds...
I am wondering how to que at those cdjs... |

no matter how experienced you are, new equipment will need getting used to. try going to the club early to get a feel for the equipment.. basically, depending on what cdj it is, you cue it by pressing the cue button where you want the track to start up when u hit play. you can use the jog wheel to make small adjustments to the cue ...
i remember last year, i went on a pair of cdj's without any experience, and i thought, hey, this can't be hard, same thing as what i do on vtt.. hehe, my first few mixes were horrible, cuz i was just fiddling around with the buttons not knowing what they did. |

| maybe u could try bringing your own decks to the club.. and plugg them in the mixer that they have there.. |

| If you don't want to make a complete fool out of yourself you better log a a little time on their CD decks before you perform. Perhaps you can get there early and just play around mixing in your head-phones before the event starts. For relevent practice at home before you go there, try mixing using only the pitch fader to keep your records in synch (without touching the vinyl). That should give you a suitably like CD mixing experience in some regards. If you can pull that off then all you need to do is get the cue points to work for you and things should go smoothly. |
