How are remixes actually created?

| How are remixes actually created? I can't understand how the remixer would be able to make the original producers sounds, there's always sampling, but how would you get rid of the other elements on top of the sample? Does the origional producer send the remixer the music program file or MIDI file? |

A midi file is enuff to make a remix.
And maybe some sounds from the original track. :)
But all u need really is the midifile, simple as that. |

Serious remixes are usually requested by the artist himself. The remixer can then just let him know what samples he needs, and naturally the artist will give him them.
A remixer doesn't necessarily need the midi-file, I mean he's gonna remix it anyways, not copy it. A midi file is pretty useless if it has 30 tracks and your studio setup is different then the one the midi file was made in. (and no 2 studios are alike). All you need is your ears. |

Remix kits should include:
all the melody pieces, samples and loops from orinal track.
Midi files are also highly recommended if song contains lot's of melodies that are hard to find out, just to make things easier for remixers. It's typical that original track composers writes a txt file about which technique the song has been created...
Well this is what I was told to do and those sample kits might get really large, I have done this once and it was over 90MB:s zipped. |

getting in touch with the composer/prodcuer is usually not easy,
so if you manage to find an acapella and an instrumental mix of the actual track, you`ve got a good start.
About the midi thing, I agree to Pjotr. A midifile of the original melody isn`t necessarily at all. But if you want to use the same melody pattern as in the original mix, you can easily find general midi tracks on the web of the track you`re looking for.
I remember a mix I made of Barthezz - On the move...
I didn`t to a to the original track, just replaced the basskick, cymbals and hihats with two smashing drumloops, and named it
Bartezz - On the move (Rockagill hard mix).
I used about 30 minutes on this, just for fun, but people actually played the dam remix in their sets and perfomances around here...weird! And the remixes I`m really proud of, wull no one listen to..!..:eyes: :( :mad: Ok some do :) |
