G.E.M. Entertainment and WeDance Events announce merger
Toronto, Canada - Monday February 20th, 2006 – Toronto based companies Gem Entertainment and WeDance Events announced today that the two companies are merging to create Gem Events. The company will continue
producing a variety of events and club nights in Toronto and has plans to expand globally in the near future. In 2006, Gem will also be focusing on growing its artist management and distribution divisions.
Gem Entertainment was founded early in 2005 by Craig Pettigrew and played a pinnacle role in the Canada Day Celebration at the Docks featuring the world’s biggest DJ, Tiesto. Some other notable events in 2005 were iDream with Danny Tenaglia at the Docks, Carte Blanche at the Docks, Erick Morillo at LOT 332, Re-Connected at the Docks, and X-Tend your New Year at 270 Spadina.
WeDance Events, founded by Carey Britt in July 2005 after resigning from his position as Talent Buyer and Director of Marketing and Promotion at Boa, launched with strength in July 2005 with a rare Sunday night appearance by Spain’s hottest export DJ’s Chus & Ceballos at LOT 332. Not much later in 2005 Carey launched sub brands WeGetFunky, WeGroove, and WeGoDeep with
successful shows at a number of Toronto hot spots. Other notable events in 2005 are X-Tend your New Year at 270 Spadina, David Guetta at LOT 332, and Erick Morillo at LOT 332.
Both companies are positive about the merger and look forward to combining forces to bring even more exciting and innovative events and international talent to Toronto clubbers. A number of exciting announcements are on the horizon and 2006 will not be a year of disappointment. The companies first project out of the gates is a new weekly called “Sunday School” at State Theatre, which will begin on Sunday February 26th and will feature Toronto’s own Sean Miller, followed on Sunday March 5th by the UK’s Tom Stephan a.k.a. Superchumbo.
With the recent merger of these well-structured companies Toronto clubbers are sure to have a great summer. The recent growth in the film industry, continuous growth and popularity of Canadian culture, along with all the new developments in the North American club scene have made Toronto a hot spot for thrill seekers and clubbers around the world.
