Sonic Foundry SoundForge... record it, save it straight to mp3.

i use goldwave, pretty simple and straightforward

if you wanna make demo CDs from your mix, I'd record to .wav and burn that before encoding, after all there IS quality loss from encoding/decoding. You should have some 800 megs free space.

where can i get goldwave?

i'd recommend wavelab
and yea, burn the wav to your cd, dont enconde to mp3 first

I recommend the program CD Wave.

It lets you record from the sound card into a WAV.
It's just a great program, with no nags or limitations, very stable.

Also, it lets you split a big .WAV into smaller ones!
This is great if you want to have actual tracks on a CD.
In fact, this is its primary purpose.

Here is the site: http://www.cdwave.com The program is called CD Wave. Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Ill try most of them out and see what wors best.

I actually just found out i might get to use my friends dads recording studio for my demo, that would be pretty sweet. But im still going to record a few mixes on my PC

I DON'T Reccomend using total recorder.

it has ed up on me recording anything longer than 45 min or so.

Another solution, that may not necessarily be the best for a demo recording, but definatley is useful and helps if your system sucks, is (assuming you run windows), setup a shoutcast sever and install the shoutcast plugin for winamp on your computer. Setup the sever to accept 1 connection on your localhost and then use the plugin to stream to yourself and record straight to any quality mp3 encoding you desire.
