what are the main things to take into account?

----- A LOT of work and headaches

what are the main things to take into account?

----- how much money can you afford to lose

what are the prices for renting a venue?

----- depends on the venue

printing flyers?

----- depends how many flyers, $1000 up to $5000+

dj's? security?

----- depends on what dj's, style, genre, location, local, international, etc. from $50 to $5000 to $12,000

what kinds of licences do you need? etc..

----- depends on the location

i am clueless , yet i'd love to do it

----- are you sure? it's not as easy as it may seem, its awesome though when it all works out.

I'm not an expert, but I think it all starts and ends with the "bling, bling".

I think you'll need a minimum amount of money if you're planning on putting on a party that size.

heh - cool.

There are lots of clubs that you could throw a party in of that size. THat way the club handles security and drinks and all that crap. You just do DJ's, promotion and decorations.

But the city needs new ideas - so if you have some capital - by all means please do - I'll help! ;)

well i can comment on this... does it have to be a successful party? hehehe
Money is the most important thing. It takes money to make money. Next of all you have to get talent that everyone wants to see. It is tough bringing dj's here that have a small rep and expect to make money off it.
Third is you have to plan it well in advance. Planning a party in just a month is ver very hard to pull off because you only have 4-8 big days to promote on (fri&sat)
Next you need to find a venue that will hold the amount of people you think will come. having the event at a club is less stress than some place like a hall because it has a sound system already and also security and staff come with the venue price.
NOW one of the biggest things of all is to PROMOTE YOUR ASSES OFF! You cant be lazy at all. You have to think that every minute you have until your event is a chance for you to get the word out and have people actually come to your event (Dont use the Gielen event as an example).
Make sure that you take care of your dj because sometimes his set might reflect your actions and how you take care of him while he stays. Make sure he/she is always comfortable so they can give you there best.
Decor matters alot but not to everyone. A decorator can cost you a pretty penny if you are not careful.
You can get flyers for pretty cheap you just have to cut the middle man out and go directly to the printing company.

Anyways i hope this helps a bit, if u have any other questions feel free to IM me.

I think it would take an opinion poll, time, money, and some more time and money.

thanks a lot guys:) i'll have to think about it

Yea..if you can get the capital to throw a party, more power to you. The thing about being a promotor is your only as good as your last party. What I mean by this is say you throw a party, spend like 5 grand for everything, and you make like 200 bucks.....You have to keep having alot of parties to make any sort of living out of it. Which becomes a huge headache. Some people like to stay in the party buisness till they have enough for there own club. Anyway, that's a different story, but it is such a risky buisness, and I totally respect everyone who does it. All it takes is one party to go sadly wrong, and you lose alot of money! Like it is so risky hiring big name Dj's from europe, it's like if they don't show..your pretty much ruined.
