Hi!
im thinking of buying two Silver Technics SL-1200MK2 Professional DJ Turntables. I'm new to DJing and turntables, but think have found a good deal. when i go to inspect them, what kind of things should I look for - what are typical problems they might have - what is a good way to determine if they are in good shape. any hints/tips would be very much appreciated - thanks!

| There isnt much to worry about. What Id check first is the tonearm. If thats straight your in good shape. Make sure you throw in a record, and make sure everything "feels" right....the pitch,speed,lights...whatever. There isnt much to worry about as long as its been taken care of. |

Probably not a good thing to say to someone who is new to the whole DJing thing, seeing as the tonearms are S shaped. :p
You won't really need to do a whole lot of inspection, Technics are notorious for being built like tanks, so 9 times out of 10 you wouldn't be able to notice a difference between a new table and a 10 year old one. |

maybe just the accuracy of the pitch adjust, they might need to be replaced as that is really the only thing besides needles that gets consistantly used. The other moving parts are less likely to wear.
Oh I forgot the centre part that fits in the hole of the vinyl, it has bearings, but should be ok. just check it doesn't 'wobble' when you move it. It should be rock steady. |

See that when the platter spins that it spins flat.
There is a good chance the popup stylus iluminator (little light that lights up the record so you can see the groves) is blown. Dont let that worry you, if its a big deal you can replace them youself for $20. |
