I agree that there may have been some less than fantastic tracks on shivers but lets not forget that Armin was responsible, or part of a group responsible for zocalo, shivers and sail, three incredible tracks in one year!
There aren't a whole lot of people who could say that.

So true. Armin's such a fantabulous producer and dj. I love love love Zocalo and Sail, not that big on Shivers, but all in all, still a solid production.

Sail will be released on March 17th. Be prepared to hear it at Decadence, cause it blow you away. Maybe we'll get lucky enough to have Armin dance on top of the booth again (as he did @ Red-Lite on NYE) ;)

his sets are still a lot of fun, but the Armin of 3-4 years ago was better.

I don't mind this track at all...I like it...it's nice and fluffy (there's not enough nice and fluffy trance these days, lol)...but definitely not one of his premier productions.

I wonder though, for someone as busy as he...with his weekly ASOT show, tour schedule, record label, new artist promotion, etc...how much time does he really spend on original production?

In terms of the best trance producer/DJs, I think Armins is running behind Markus Schulz, Above & Beyond and PVD over the last year or so (even though that biatch PVD needs to get his ass back to Toronto!)

That's no excuse, productions should take as long as you deem it necessary. Besides ASOT, all those things you mentioned, someone else is already taking care of. Preparing for ASOT can't take more than a few hours a week.

His productions have gone down incredibly in value, while they may be better sounding in terms of acoustic, his ideas have almost but vanished.

Someone mentioned Shivers, Sail and Zocalo. Shivers is a generic trancer with a melody inspired by an older track, dated sounds/arrangement. Sail is also inspired by an older track, production mimicing Tiesto's Adagio For Strings, but not being anywhere near as good sounding. Zocalo, well, G&D, that's all I can say about that one.

Armin back in the day was much better, musically.

^^^ agreed.

I'd like to think that producers are perfectionists who won't release something until they are extremely satisfied with the result (other motivations, like money, being secondary, but clearly that's not the case in the industry). Ideally the end product is truly their intended track...to be judged solely on it's creativity and quality without qualification.

I'd like to think Armin follows that line of reasoning...but...I also suspect that if he *exclusively* focused on production, we'd see better stuff out of him?

not a bad track...but it's no Armin of 4+ years ago, for sure.

Okay wtf? There are two names for it, Sail and
Armin Van Buuren feat. J. Vayne - Hymne [Armin's PB Sail Mix]

I got the 2nd one from the tracklisting of Armin Only.

I think the album shivers is brilliant, aside from the track shivers. Different from what he has done in the past, that simply shows his progression as an artist.
