Not to mention that "skipping" isn't always an option as it will reflect on your employee review and potential raise. School totally sucks. I mean, why would I wanna go to class high with a few friends when I can go to work sober and sit in front of a computer all day? Not to mention all those boring classes, hot girls, new people, you get to meet.
I duno how people can hate school |
hahahaa. Exactly. As much as school sucks cause you aren't making $$$. At least if I prefered to smoke a spliff and stay home I could without any reprecussion. |

Work beats school any day. Starting may 1st I'm gonna be working fulltime for 16 months, which means I get to skip on a year of school. I CAN'T ING WAIT. That's right. I wish it was May 1st today, not March 1st. School ing blows far more than work does. |
what i WOULDNT give to be a student again...wake up late, stay up late, get stoned and not worry about ...
white collar worklife BLOWS :whip:

Ya, maybe if your major is in some bull topic like a pseudoscience or commerce, but this is my school life:
Weekdays, come to class, listen to incredibly boring ing lectures and tutorials. Evenings are either spent procrastinating about the projects and midterms, or spent doing the ing projects and midterms. Weekends are spent doing the ing projects and midterms. Hell starts about a third into each semester and continues till the end of exams, during which time I barely sleep at all. All this stress and effort for sub-par marks.
Skipping is only done to finish the ing projects or have an extra hour or so to study for that midterm I'm gonna fail anyway.
Going to class high? I'd rather ing use that time to get a few extra hours of sleep. You're paying for this, why the would you come to class high? Waste of time and money.
I'm in 3rd year, at this point, we've got about 50 of the same people in all my classes, on average 20 come to lectures (my class today at 9am had 10 people including me). No meeting anybody new here - I know all these folks for 3 years already.
Now lets look at my work:
36Gs per year (I'm living at home with rents - so virtually no expenses for me). I spend all my time in front of the computer now anyway, might as well be getting paid for it. Virtually no stress. Doing what I enjoy (unlike school where for every useful course I have to take 2 completely pointless and outdated courses because the profs got their PhD 30 years ago, and that's all they can teach (badly, I should mention)). The feeling that you are useful, that something is getting done because of you. ING STABILITY. I can plan ahead months in advance. I know I'll be home by 5:30. I know all my weekends are free. I can go out every evening of the week. 7 days a week. If I'm home by 3am, and get up by 7 or 8, I'm GOLDEN.
To clarify, I'm in the Software Engineering Specialist program at University of Toronto. It ain't easy stuff, kids. Okay, when I graduate I'll prolly be able to make double of what I'm gonna be making come May. Is it worth it to put off graduation another year for this? You bet your pimply left testicle it is.
P.S. Almost forgot. Almost. When I graduate, I'll have a year's worth of experience directly related to my career. If I don't go back to the company after I graduate, it'll still be about 1000 times easier to get a new job after I graduate. |

Cosmic.. you started off with a great description of why school sucks (I'm at UofT as well 4th, year). But your really didn't need to put down other majors which are just as hard as yours. I know you think that the "software engineering specialist" program is tough beans, but you're not the only one who thinks their faculty is the hardest.

You're right...i'd rather sleep-in or go somewhere else high, rather than sit at school. But other than that I don't mind it. I'm in Marketing@George Brown. All the courses are pretty up-to-date; and the electives offer a wide range of interesting choices, from world issues courses, to history about jazz. Most of my classes have a mixture of new and familiar faces.
But yea, you're at U of T so I can see why you'd hate school. My friend is in Engineering Science there so don't start on how hard your program is, cause I've heard it all, lol. |

I apologize if I kinda dissed somebody up, but I have a bunch of friends who take Bio, Chem, or English as their majors, and their life isn't any easier than mine. So honestly, I have no idea what you have to be taking (and where) to just go to class high and chill on the weekends and evenings. |

Work now 40 hours a week at one job and just added on a part-time job to make extra cash (kinda kewl 'cause I don't pay very much in the way of taxes at job #2 due to job#1). And am applying to graduate school for Fall 06 - waiting on word back right now.
I love school, I miss school, I cannot wait to be impoverished again as a student working my butt off and using my brain again. And I'll probably work a part time job then as well depending on where I get in.
And this balls to the wall work now? I want to a.) get out of debt and b.) participate in some amazing trips like WMC, Bal en Blanc, Bonnaroo, & WEMF that I will not be able to take for the next 2-5 years of impoverished studenthood (after the master's, is law school). And as much as I bitch and wish I had more sleep right now, it'll be worth when end of July I will look around at Michigan, say "toodles!" and head out with my credit card paid off, all misc debt wrapped up, amazing memories from the spring/summer with great friends, and plenty of moola for moving in my pocket.
So viva la working the ass off! Beats being unable to travel and being stuck in Michigan till August. :) At least, this is what I keep telling myself, lol. |

Check previous post :p
And tbh, it's not like I do that all the time, but it's certainly possible for some courses to just slack off like that. ONce exam time hits though, its better to take it all seriously and don't be an idiot :) |
