well its going to be basically a mixture of diet and excercise.. both equaly important
try to do as much cardio as you can and work your way up to increased intensity for that. (running jogging, rowing (at a lighter intensity))
do about 2 or 3 days of freeweight excercises per week starting off at about 12 reps max 1 set per each excercise.
do this for about 1 and a half months and then try increasing the weights to lower your reps to about 8 to 10.
The key here will be eating healthy, youll burn the calories by cardio and essentially use up fat stores.
you can use the rowing machine for cardio at a light intensity, and for your resistance training you can do the same at a higher intensity
hope this helps |

What is resistance training?
The rower has 5 levels on it. Each level has more resistance....is that what you meant?
Sorry im a n00b at this. |

You don't really want to do a 3x8 workout - like Nrg2Nfinit said, you're probably better off doing a 1x12 workout as it'll keep you from bulking up. Cardio (running, bike and your rowing) is great if you're looking to tone down.
When you're at the gym, don't do a concentration workout, look into doing a circuit system where you target all the major body parts during the workout.
Don't stop eating, as it's just as worse as eating wrong. Just eat better, as in avoid too many carbs and starches - get in a lot of protein; eat foods such as chicken, tuna, oatmeal (for a great enery food in the morning), and even peanut butter.
Hope that helps! |

this is the basis to lose weight. thats where lots of people on say atkin's goes wrong. without getting to far into it, people do the diet part but no excercise.
anyway. my addition is this. during your workout you should for most of the time be at target heart rate. meaning say for the hour you workout your really getting worked.
i hope that made sense.
oh, and don't forget core strength training. |

Ive been hitting the gym as well, but only on the weekends because its the only time of the week that I actually have time to workout to the fullest. Im not a weight lifter, I just stick to doing cardio - usually Ill do about 15-20 mins on the eliptical as a warmup, than I go downstairs and swim 1/4 mi. in the pool (18 laps: 50m pool - 36 laps: 25m pool).
Im not looking to get big at all, I just want to slim down, loose weight and get tone - the good thing about swimming is that is great for your muscles too. |

So true!
You ever try to do squats in the pool? My legs hurt after only 25 or so. My goal is 100 nonstop. |
