as you can tell the way it is now just doesnt work.. the hats come in way to abruptly and dont mix well when its just them and the melody.. you can probably also tell I have dyslexia and ADD and cant arrange for -_- ... how would you bring the percussions into this? should i give up on the closed/open hat build up intro?
any mixing suggestions are welcome too :o |

well the hats themselves arent really that bad.. but it seems like when the kick and bass comes in.. it seems to break the drive of the track..
what happens here (i think) is that u introduce the percus before the the rest and that means the track is already driving before u introduce the kick and bass.. so if u introduced the kick and bass before the hats.. the track would seem much driving when u introduce the hats.. |

Hey there,
What's happening here is none of the above. The percs are fine in terms of pattern although perhaps a little thin.
The build up is nice and the overall result is pleasing but not driving.
In my opinion, the reason why it's not driving is because it's not written in such a way. It has to do wit the rythm of the melodies not how they come in.
The least driving element in the track is the bassline. In terms of drive it's very weak (Not saying it doesn't sound good).
To create good drive in tracks it's usually achieved much easier if you make them a little busier and use some delay to funk it up a little.
Also you have to keep in mind that the main melody has that Pulser-My Religion feel to it which isn't a driving monster either but still remains a great track.
In my opinion atleast it's not the way you bring it in, it's the actual rythm in the tunes.
Cheers

there is no bassline! just lead melody sound and percs.. i also have a really nice high frequency pad that goes nice with it.. ill try to find a nice deep bass to go in there.
it does have a my religion type lead melody, ill try to see how they bring in the percs.. how would you bring in the percs nemesis? |

for perc introduction i use very often a filter to fade them in... or a reversed clap or some noise sweep to give some hints before actually something happens.
beside that i would change some samples.. hihats and bassdrum. they don't fit that well (sound a bit oldschool) especially the bass has too much low end and not enough click/attack |

You got some really good ideas right there. I like it but I think it just lacks more elements and complexity. I actually like the lead/melody, but it doesn't sound strong and powerful enough to me. |

You're bringing the percs in fine. The real problem is, IMO, the effects and processing. Everything sounds really dry and separated, and not part of the greater whole. Not to mention a driving bassline would do you wonders. You could also use some more percussion instruments, IMO. |

Eh I already gave up on this song its not going anywhere.. everything about it sucks.. melody, samples, effects/processing.. and especially arrangement ... i dont see how you can like how i brought the percs in those hats come out of nowhere and dont even sound right with the melody.. |

I wasn't listening at home, so thought Iheard something. There is a lower frequency synth going on there but yes you are right this is no bassline.
You can't expect to have a driving track without a driving bassline. I would concentrate more on building the body of your track and then worry about things like how you introduce the percussion at a later point.
What do you use to write with, perhaps I can send you some files with ideas?
Cheers
