Armin's "Yet Another Day" is probably the best trance tune with male vocals. Ray Wilson did a good job on that. I really don't think there's anything that comes close...

I'll agree on that, but in my opinion the male vocals on this album aren't anywhere near bad.

Edit: Another track with great male vocals = U.N.K.L.E - What Are You To Me, I think it's really nice (especially in the bootleg Sasha uses in the Involver album between it and Petter - These Days). I'll agree it's hard to find male vocals that are really impressive in the genre; but to straight out say the vocals on Tristate suck... well... I can't begin to understand.

The other that bothers me in general is how all these artist albums have so many vocals tracks. Like Armin's latest 2 artist albums, PVD's Reflections, Tiesto's Just Be...seems like they're concentrating too much on the vocals and not enough of the music...tis a shame

so here's my review:

overall a good album! better than I've expected after I was really disappointed by the samples, but not as good as I have expected as I heard first time above and beyond will release an artist album.

For all of you who haven't listend to the album you will nevertheless know air for life and alone tonight, which may be overplayed but I think they are still good tracks! if you like them, you will also like the album.

I really enjoy almost the whole album! yes there are many vocals, but hey they are not that bad and cheasy as many say.

I didn't like three tracks at all: "good for me", "for all I care" - which is the only track which can be considered to be cheasy on the album and "in the past", which is a filler, sounds like an intro.

from the new tracks, my favs are:

tri-state: very relaxing track, a bit melancholy. make me contemplative

world on fire: is like "surrender (filterheadz remix)" only short vocal samples are used in this track

can't sleep: decent track with female vocals

liquid love: good track with male vocals, not cheasy at all.

indonesia: is like the first intro track "tri-state", deep and melancholy

home: downtempo track with female vocals, maybe best vocal track on the album..

will buy this album, my rating is 8/10

yes id say a majority of it is total pish, some glimpses of some good material - 'Cant Sleep' was ok, and maybe Tri-State, thats about it.

To many bad vocals.

Id like to have seen 'Troubles In The World' accapella on there as some sort of bonus track.

tranceUNITED:
Why is the album called ‘Tri-State`?

Tony:
It’s a title that seems to fit a lot of things. On one level there are three of us in Above & Beyond, with three different unique personalities and different nationalities (Jono is British, Paavo is Finish and I’m Irish). On another level we have three different aspects that are involved in this album – we are producers, we are DJs and we are musicians/songwriters. And then there are the Three Realms of Existence, the three states of matter and the three dimensions. Three is the magic number!
