FLAMERS- please dont waste yours and my time:)
USEFUL HELP FROM NICE PATIENT PEOPLE - apprieciated:)
i have been using cubase sl/sx 2.0 for about 2.5 years and now feel my tracks will benefit from sidechaining the bass to the kick drum.
not cos 'benny benessi' uses it and i wanna copy him. i just want to free up some headroom for my kick when i want a nice full long note bassline running parallel with a kick.
im using the standard vst dynamics compressor. that comes with cubase.
how do i route the signal from my kick sample track so it affects the compressor on the bass track?
i admit i have read articles posted here but it did not make sense to me.
thanks in advance!

Im guessing cubase would have some kind of efx channels or sends and recievs. You just rout the kick and bass to that.
Ok.. so what i said wasnt so helpfull but that link looks like it might be. |

Only way I have found as of yet, is using the dB direct-x plug-ins. I personally think they are too harsh, but they do work. I am sad that unlike ProTools Nuendo/Cubase is devoid of any kind of internal bussing system, meaning.
You can't send a kick to a "bus" track, and then have your compressor listen to that bus track for key input. Im pretty sure standard Cubase/Nuendo plug-ins are not going to do it for you.
However.
Setup goes like this
AudioTrack(Bass)->Insert dB Compressor: RECV-A
AudioTrack(Kick)->Insert dB Compressor: SEND-A

I saw another thread on this earlier, forgot where. But whatever. I think it's a question every Cubase/Nuendo user has once they learn of side-chaining compression and how Benny-Bennassi-tastic it is. Heh. I kid.
Know of any other good side-chaining plug ins that work for Nuendo/Cubase, post them here ;)
edit:
SideKick looks like it will also do it for you
It's free too:

I think other people have mentioned it/use it before. But I found it by my lonesome. |

I suggest checking THIS COMPRESSOR out, it's free and it's the only way to sidechain in stereo in Cubase atm. (at least that I know of)
It works really well for it's purpose so go check it out :) |
