I read in a book that Tannoy's were one of the best brand's of monitor's to buy, as for as studio monitors are concerned. I did a search to see what people have had to say about them and it didn't seem many people have talked about this brand in the past. Is Tannoy's really one of the best brand's and just out of most people price range, or is what I read a bunch on ? I looking to spend up to a couple grand on monitors, but I want the best I can get!

Tannoy make good speakers for home cinema, not sure about studio monitors tho, I've not looked into it.
Dynaudio are pretty good. That's what I'm looking at. I'd love the air 5.1 system, but at $17,000 US it's a bit outa my reach...

Buy Genelec or Mackie if you can afford to. Dont waste your time with the expensive Tannoys. They sound great but thats not what your after in accurate monitors.

i think the tannoy reveals are decently balenced for $200 a set.

I have Spirit (soundcraft) moniters and they sound very proper. Other than that, i just build my own :P

Just go listen to diefferent models, and get what you like.

I personally was looking to get some new monitors not too long ago. Having a old set of alesis m1 active's didn't cut it anymore for me. I listened to diefferent monitor sets, and I was leaning toward mackie HR 624 and HR824's becasue i had two friends who use them, eaven had them at my house to test. But when I went to the store, I started to like other sets. And for me it come to Genelec 8040 and Dynaudio BM6A'a, both active sets... And after some more listening, I ended up with Dynaudio BM6a's. I like them more than mackies, and Genelec, and I still have my old alesis m1's as a second referance set. One thing though, the deifferance in what i hear on the dynaudios compared to Alesis m1's is really big, The Dynaudio are able to reproduce sounds previously unheard on alesis. It's like someone lifted a blanket of my monitors, and I can hear everything crisp now. All the synths come to life, and eaven vsti synths sound better now :) We'll that's my experiance with monitors. People say that the more expensive models don't make a big diefferance. Well it all depends on your signal chain: soundcard/cables/monitors and to me buyng a higher quality set was a huge step forward. I only regret I didn't buy them earlier, but at the same time they are not 500 bucks, so I had to save some cash for it :)

I can give you an example.. a friend of my who has 3 sets, Alesis m1 actives, yamaha ns10's and Mackie hr624's loved his mackies the most. After fiev visits to my house, the more he listened and mixed his own tunes here he started to say that he thinks that now he like's my dynaudio's more, And to him mackies kind of sound metalic. I am not gonna say they do or don't. That's his opinion, but he's selling his mackies to get dynaudios. So this just proves that dieferent people like dieferent sound. MAke sure you listen to diefferent sets. Don't rush into it and buy any set casue it's has a good proce or looks nice.

Not the first time I have heard that. What is really important is how you can listen to monitors for a long period. I was told by an engineer that he found it 'easier' to listen to the Dyn's for longer periods.
Mr.Mystery
Got myself a pair of Tannoy Reveals and never regretted it.

I paid €500 for mine and that was 2 years ago.

Tannoy's are really good studio monitors. I wouldn't use their reveal line to showcase them though. I've had my PBM-8 II's for 7 years and still going strong, also in the studio are a pair of Alesis M series and KRK.

For a real treat check out the their Ellipse line-up.
