Well tonight was the NIN (Nine Inch Nails) show here in London and I worked it as planned. I have been a fan of NIN and especially Trent Reznor for many years so it was great to finally see them perform live.
It started off Saturday by purchasing the food for the rider (dressing room specifications et al). I love the part about the vegetable tray: "No cauliflower, it blows".
I arrived today around 4pm. Sound check was at 5pm and they sounded great already. Trent had come down with a cold and had actually cancelled a few shows and the worry was he might not be up to snuff for this show, but in the end he pulled through.
The stage was really slick. It had a movable light stage as well as an LED lighting system and projection screens. Definetly a top notch setup. I was really impressed.
I was baskstage when they went on and they looked really pumped. Trent gave me a high five on his way to the stage which was pretty cool.
They opened with a "Pilgrimage" intro and straight into "Mr. Self Destruct". The crowd was loving it. Battling on and on all night they played a fantastic 2 full hour performance. I was looking forward to hearing some things from "The Downward Spiral" album and to my satisfaction, I got my wish. Hearing "Closer" was just unbelievable. Trent was way up on a podium and the LED's were moving around in a red glow, just fantastic. Then he did a solo with "Hurt" that sent shivers down my spine. Ending off with "Head Like a Hole" was just amazing. The smash of the guitars and feedback was a perfect ending to a great night.
Afterwards backstage the band members seemed really pleased with how everything went. They didn't stay long though as they're off to Erie, PA tommorow. Trent left with his trusty dog and everyone headed to their respective busses. What I found really killer was in their room they travel with a full plasma TV complete with stereo system, playstation, and iPod setup. Seriously cool. I also found out from one of the tour managers that Trent is travelling with a seudo-studio setup with Pro-Tools working on a new album so look for that in the future.
All in all a great show. I definetly recommend NIN and this particular tour to anyone who is a fan.
