dell xps systems are pretty solid.

If he doesn't know about computes than why does it matter :p

I say you should get him a Dell...free flat screen and a great warranty. Plus they're cheap and have financing options, he won't know the difference.

Dell is like the WalMart of computers, and you get what you pay for.

actually, computing is the one area that contradicts that adage.

You proabably hate ur dad but thats besides the point :p

I wouldn't build him a system, go with a reputable custom computer system builder or better yet a store like staples/bestbuy/etc.

So why am I making this recommendation? Well if something goes wrong with the system, your dad doesn't understand something he can talk to their customer service or send the whole system back and get another one no questions asked. Here a local store wins because there isn't any shipping or waiting involved. Something goes wrong he simply brings it in. So make sure you buy from someone who has great customer service and a good warranty. Remember you're buying it for him not you and he isn't tech savvy.

Yer wrong.
Buy a Dell and youre guaranteed at least 6 calls to the 1-800-HELP-ME-I-BOUGHT-A-DELL hotline a year.

here's one piece of advice.

if you are going to buy a dell, please ! i beg of you ! go to dell.com, and download the drivers ! because i have run into complications where the ghost disks do not contain the necessary utilities to operate some peripherals, such as the NIC.

except the problem is that customer support people don't know too much more than my dad and only thing they know how to do is read pre-written instructions for troubleshooting that rarely work.

and what's with me hating my dad lol?
