For people who have been @ Ultra in the past: Do people throw their own beach parties? I'm from Hawaii and we do beach gatherings with tents, generators, and equipment. Do they have similar things like that on the beach in Miami??

as much of a party "city" miami is (especially sobe), outdoor events abide by some really really strict guidelines. Not to mention fees that venues incur for advertisement placement etc. I was speaking with the owner of Planet Hollywood back in 2003 about capital and found that the normal overhead for WMC week for venues is usually tripled.

Example - a Bicardi Limon "visual display" projected Advertisement on a brick wall required them (planet hollywood) to pay a $125 fee to the city of miami just to have the single advertisement up. Now I'm sure most places have trillions of banners, etc...these things add up =)

So to answer your question, no, there aren't "private/personal" parties happening on the beach. You might find resorts with beachfronts throwing legitmate parties, but you can't walk along the beach and up to some tent and hear some music pumping, besides you'll probably be gawking at all the topless women and the Girls Gone Wild krew walking up n down the beach/ocean drive.

PS-Take a look at some of the cops, true miami vice!
