Soo dont give me this hiphop is dead ... People are still out there still trying to express actual meaningfull messanges, you just have to look a bit harder. |

i've been debating kane's superiority over rakim -- for a number of reasons -- with hip hop heads for 15 years bro lol.
biggie was dope, no doubt about it, but not top 5 material. i remember the morning big died, it was a sunday, and i got a phone call at about 8:30 am from my boy and he was almost tearful as he said "yo, they killed biggie smalls" - like most people, he took it quite personally which kind of weird...
the only musicians i was ever upset about dying were freddie mercury and kurt cobain.

meaningful messages don't necessarily translate into quality hip hop, but tight flows and dope beats always do. mainstream rap has dope beats, but the level of rapping is beyond abysmal, consisting almost solely of grunting barbarians from the south and southwest.
indie hiphop, favored by the backpack set and represented by guys like mf doom and his ilk, is ultimately just 'ok' and never rises too far above mediocrity. hip hop is on life support. |

I'd rather think of all the people he sold crack to who may or may not be dead.
Why celebrate a man who was a criminal, huge drug dealer and possibly involved in murders? |
you would be right, if i was talking about celebrating the man...hoever, im talking about celebrating the music, the artist...
youre right, he probably was a degenerate before he became as big as he did...but look at the music he made...look at those lyrics...only tupac has been able to match him and what he stood for...thats what i'd rather think about on his birthday... |

Damn man... it took Biggie dying for Hot 97 to play one day without CRAP... Mr Cee has been TEARING it up on the turntables... Today's the only day I listen to hip hop all year. I been burnin it up bumpin Hot 97 all morning.
Biggie all day today!

| I hate his music. I've never found it to be good. And I've never understood how he could be called one of the greatest ever with such a small amount of material ever. Would the Beatles be considered the greatest group ever if they had only put out 2 or 3 albums? I doubt it. Tupac wins. Nas is not far behind. I can't listen to Guru without falling asleep. |

BIG was the man...liked his style but didn't care too much for his beats. Puffy or whoever else produced for him would pretty much sample a hook from an old soul record and hit the loop button. RIP...his music was a part of my high school soundtrack.
btw...All this mention of Gangstarr and Guru but yet not one person mentioned Premier. Easily one of the best with the beats. |
