I..I..I..I..I..I..I..I..I..I Want a Vocal Prefix Build Sound (But How?)

I have heard so many songs whcih introduce the vocal with a kind of sweeping whoosh sound that leads perfectly up to the first vocal.

How is this done?

EG:

-> Faded in in a nice smooth build until..
I..I..I..I..I..I..I..I..I..I..I..I..I..I..I Want a Vo-cal,
I..I..I..I..I..I..I..I..I..I..I..I..I..I..I Want it in my tune...
-> Faded in in a nice smooth build until..

I have used a cut sample of a vocal to try and imitate this, but it isn't a smooth build - more of a stutter. I'd like the smooth build but have no idea how to achieve it.

Hope this makes sense.

Any ideas? I am using FL Studio to lay down my funky beats.

Cheers,
Effero
It's a matter of a reverse reverb. You need to apply reverb on your vocal track, reverse the sample and export. Then import the sample, cut out the begining before the words and paste on to the beggining of your unprocessed vocals.

would it not be easier to reverse the sample, add reverb then reverse it back?
ASFSE
well you dont get the reverb reversed...

actualy this guy is right. This is how the reverse reverb effect is done. You will most likely have to compress the reversed reverb to get it up there...you dont want to saturate the sample in so much reverb that it sits to far back in the mix. You can also add some delay when the sample is reversed and some slight delay if you want to the trail end of teh sample after you reversed it back.

Thanks guys - I was hoping it would be a fairly simple technique and it sounds like it is.

I love finding out 'tricks of the trade' such as this.

Samples anyone? Im still kinda confused about what this is about.

This song (although isn't Trance) gives a perfect example of what I'm after.

I had other examples - such as the breakdown in Plummet - Damaged (Antillas Mix) but this one shows it better.

Is this reverse reverb?

If I may just ask a question on this myself... to be 100% sure I know what the main question is here (as I'd like to learn)

Would a good example of this be Ferry's It's Time?

that, Ititititititi IT TIIIIIME

?
