I was thinking, I know they have software stomp boxes for guitar and bass such as native instruments guitar rig.. i was wondering if they had a similar real-time software tool for dj's.. such as a phaser, flange, echo, hi-pass, lo-pass, etc.

just curious.

Yep, you can use ableton for that.

You'll need a pretty fast machine and a low-latency sound card though.

Get yourself a program called Kristal (Krystal?) if you don't have ableton or Cubase or similar host program. Kristal is a free audio sequencer that supports VST effects. Then you can go over to kvr-vst.com and get youself about 50.000 free vst effects and put them on the audio channels. Just plug the outputs of your players or FX loop on mixer to the line ins on your soundcard.
You need a low latency (ASIO) soundcard to do this, but with a normal soundcard you may be able to get by using the Asio4All drivers.

VST effects are the standard today, there is an infinite amount of effects available, many of which are distributed for free online (legally :)).
