I don't work for the company nor do I get any kickback nor do I get any advantages other than a) sharing a tip that I find helpful with fellow producers and b) get a discount in the process of ordering in bulk.

I am not forcing anyone to order...

But you have to be aware of those folks who try to sell you gasoline or food - they are some evil mofos... everyone knows - you don't need it but they'd have you believe otherwise!

imo you really dont need a book to teach you trance

but if you want to go spend the 100$ after shipping and handling go ahead.

if you knew nothing of cars ,would you buy a book to put an engine together

you can learn just as much in that book and more for nothing ,you can go to the library for free
and browse tranceaddict.com

the again you could use my formula for trance.

first thing is making sure you have all the essential pieces of a soft synth ,studio
sequencer ,vsts,a work station like ,logic, reason,or project 5,or protools etc.

something to keep of note which is very important is ,you really only want soft synths that are analog
or emulated of a classic /vintage synth where as you are able to use envelopes and lfos to mold and shape your sound.
it has been noted that these synths are the best for trance music V-station,Pro 53,Zeta etc something similar to these.

and you allready created your elements for your track your main riff melody, arps to layer with the main riff, string pad, chords
your bass,fx,percussion and anything else you may need to create

then this may be an easy way for you to make trance.

#1 make your percussion but if you can layer your percussion with one drum machine,or drum map
or make an instance of a drum machine for each kit you need for example ,kick ,rise, build ,intro, chorus, snare ,tom roll
breakdown ,outtro (so you would create 7 or 8 drum machines and trigger them when needed )

#2 make your main riff
i will create a main riff and upload it soon ,for an example
use a saw, noise, and either a triangle or sine and make your patch the way you normally would.

you want to mix happy with sad so try mixing some somber chords with happy chords for a nice chord progression
every 4 bars ,then alternate positions of notes ,to create movement and energy ,also alternate between up and down to create tension.

2a make any more sounds youll need like pads,fx other arps or leads.

#3 make your bass around the main riff when your riff goes up your bass moves up and down and so forth dont follow it to close the song will sound too boring.

now here comes the hard part

or easy depending on your skill level

what youll do here is make a seperate file in sonar or whatever program your using

ill just name each section below and youll need to make a file for each of these

intro
drum roll
drum rise crescendo
drums breakdown
chorus
main riff
pad
arps
middle eighth dramatic build
dramatic build
chorus ,riffs ,arps, pad
string pad,chorus
bass,main riff,pad
mixdown track
mastered track

okay after you have all these files made is you go back and create each section of a trance track

you take your bass ,your fx,your pad and some drum fill and make a intro
and you make a drum roll
and so forth
after you have each section created ,this may take a few days or a week
you add effects and tweak as necesary
then you mix down each file seperatley ,to audio just make sure you name it correctly.

then you put all these audio files into one file called mixdown track

first youd obviously put your intro then, drum rise, dramatic build, breakdwn and chorus then the rest is up to you

#4 you compose it into a way that makes sense ,since trance music is based o nclassical western style
a good way to get an idea of a composition is to listen to classical music. so if you dont have any music theory knowledge
just put in a bach or rachmaninoff or chopin cd

and listen to the compositon

most trance is based on clasiscal music so this may be a good starting point for your compostions

then alter and edit it more add more effects and master it

then save it to a file called mastered track

then your good to go!

Great crash course... though keep in mind that it's hard to stay focused on your learning path when you have to resort to 10 different sources. I don't have to convince anyone - for me, quite honestly, it is a challenge. Here's why:

Say I need to learn the basics of putting the track together. I go to tranceaddict - I search for hours on end and read thousands of posts - some useful, some not. Finally, I get some kind of obscure answer from someone who is just as inexperienced as I. Meanwhile, I'm distracted from task at hand, hours wasted, nothing accomplished.

I don't know about you - but when I want to learn how something works, I experiment and suplement my learning with some knowledge. I would challenge anyone to claim that building a track is an easy task.

To someone who has done it once - yes, it is EASIER. For someone who has never done it - it is hard. I have been at this hobby for years, have spent thousands of dollars on gear - nowdays, it seems that my hobby has slowly evolved into buying/selling gear more than music itself. Don't get me wrong - I've learned a great deal about synths, the parameters, what they can do and what's good and what's not. I've tried just about every piece of gear in existence. I've actually made quite a bit of money buying/selling gear - but I'm nowhere near building a listenable track. I am embarassed to admit how much money I have sitting in my studio gear - and how little use I get out of it. I've had synths that I bought, played for several days and covered them up for several years thinking I'd use them.

I'd sell them eventually and move on to the next synth. Who knows - maybe this is my true calling - being a gear dealer but I'd like to think that I can actually get some use of it and make something.

So, that's my personal confession and goal. That's why I think having this book will help me get my A.D.D. -riddled brain back on the true goal of why I started diddling with synths - MAKING MUSIC.

...but hey, that's just me.

Look;)

I know my formula may be a bit tedious for someone who does not
or never made a track ,but i did it that w ay so it would be easier

i actually use two files one is in midi and one is everything bounced to audio.

but the moral of my orignal post is if you know a bit about music
all you need is a book about music theory to teach you structure scales, chords, progression, cadence and so forth and you can get that for 10 or 12 dollars. rather than spend 80 - 100 for a book.

since trance is based from classical music.

someone sid there was an original post on this book why dont we find it and see if this book is any good for people who do wantto buy it or has anyone here actually used it.
