Hey all!

Right, here goes the first Radio Edit mixdown. Full track still in production. It's a colab between Charlie Darwin and Dj Martin P. Stayed up all night and exchanged samples and idea's over messenger and this is the result.

First update will be thursday, hopefully a full 8 minute edit too for vinyl cuts. Well get some radio time for this one, probably not a release.

We where hoping for some feedback from anyone interested in chipping in. It's always good to get some fresh ears on the case.

Greets,

CD + MP

P.S. Turn up the volume!

its a very nice production, i like the percs and proggy touch at the beginning (chicane style abit), but when the melody comes in at 1:36 i can't feel something :(

I concur pretty much with lagrom, the progressive feeling is nice, the strings melodie gives it a housey touch, the muted sound before the piano is too dry, the piano is nice but it sounds too flat, not dinamycs at all, sounds way plane man and muddy.
I got also the feeling that something is missing, when all begin to play there's a lakc of midle end sounds, like pads, and kinda feels weak.
In overall, is a nice production, should be longer, better introduction of each section plus the things I said about the dinamycs and etc, but a nice production no doubt, looking forward for the final version ;).
Kopi =o.

Not bad. I like the groove you've set up. Like Kopi said, it should be longer.

I like when the piano starts... then when the synth comes in.... This is a really cool production.... I dont know if i ever make a track equal to this quality....:(

The intro sounds very proggy indead. I like that!

The bass and kick by themselves doesn't seem that great to me. I might skip that.

The organ sound and strings gave new life the the groove. Congrats on the idea there. I like it too!

The synth-melody... I just didn't feel it either. Seems like a MIDI-sheet calculation instead of something you inspired.

The piano was beautiful... It has good sustain -- but it is too dry. The synthy-melody is still not seeming to fit something.

The track is sounding well put together. On the arrangement side... it's not developing enough. The track needs a something more organized in it's buildup.

Really enjoyed this, loved the chicaney stuff at the beginning, awesome. Progresse's nicely and all the elements are nice, however I don't like the piano at the break. Sounds a little cheesey to me, but I often think that of any production with a Piano break. Would love to remix the finished article though. (Will PM about that :) )

Anyways, Quality track mate nice idea, nice fx and nice production.

@ Verdi: - Thanks for positive review. But the track has changed a lot since then. I mixed the piano break in with an extra melody to give the piano less indentity. Might help.

@ Four_On_Four-er: - I avoided using just the bassline with the BD just together. Sounds a little too techy for the intention of the track at hindsight.

- Didn't know it was an organ. But now you say so I think i agree.

- Main synth I was so proud of but not anymore has been completely replaced.

- Piano is totaly courtesy of Dj Martin P who did a live take on that one.

- Little more work has been done on progression of the track

@ avengie: - About a year ago I recall posting something very similar to your post, saying I would never reach the quality of someones track. Since then I have been practising, reading and made a serious study of it. My advice is not to be lazy on your productions, try the more complicated stuff out and keep at it till you get it right. Anyway I am realy flattered to hear you liked the track.

@ thoughtlessjex: It's longer now

@ kopi_luwak: - It's very hard for me to make radio edits. In 4 minutes of space I have to put all the little tricks and sounds I want and it's not enough. I prefer a long buildup and well, a progression. I'd need some more experience to be able to make radio edits that maintain the identity of the track.

Thanks all!!!

Kind regards,

Charlie Darwin

Cool track!
You have became so much better since the Bittrance time ;)
This is really good! Good produced, Great ideas. This could be big!
The strings is really good, but they need some more power or gain i think.
Piano is wonderful, I like the gated effect you've made on it. Use it more!!! :tongue2
You have to make it longer too..

Seing forward to the update!

Cool beggining, very good mixing so far, I like all the small details that make up the atmosphere. The bass sounds perfect. The pads are something that I would have raised volumewise. The arps coming in are sounding airy but again would have liked a higher volume on those. Balance of separate elements in a mix is something that I feel needs to be worked on additionaly.
Beside this, the drive in a mix is very good. It would be good to make it longer since I was just getting into it when it all of a sudden stopped.
Keep it up
Effero
