Rokit RP5 equivalents

Okay so I started out however long ago learning a few software synths. I've got ASIO4ALL drivers, and I just run a line out from my onboard soundcard to my DJ mixer (pioneer DJM600) and use my big JBL loudspeakers (EON 500s if anyone cares).
Now that I'm getting familiar with the software (I've mainly taken a liking to FL Studio), it's about time I get a new soundcard and some monitors. I'm not looking to spend a fortune, but I also don't want crap.
Is a 24-bit soundcard what I want? I'm probably going to get a USB one, this way if I ever switch from desktop to laptop (which I'd eventually like to) I won't need new gear.
Also, am I better off getting a soundcard with RCA inputs and outputs, or quarter inch, or what? Is there going to be any difference in the sound quality (I'd like to get GOOD cables, cuz for some reason everything I have now has buzzing and crap in it).
As far as speakers go, the Rokit RP-5's seem to be really good and fairly priced. Is there anything equivalent to those that I can possibly look into that might be cheaper?
thanks in advance |

i dont know much about the sound card but i can tell you about RP5. theyre just great. i have no single complain about these monitors. music sounds sooo much better when im djing on the RP5 than the technics rpdh1200. techincs sounded awesome when i was solely listening to music through them but when i turned on the RP5 i couldnt bare to listen to the music through the headphones.
this is from a guy who loves his headphones.
if your budget is around 300 then this is a great choice. you might still want to look around for other makes around this price range. i heard m-audio is good as well and less bassy.
first time i heard the RP5 was at a producer studio who had huge monitors and the RP5 on the ground. he wanted to show me how good the RP5 were and i was like 'no man its gonna sound like crap after hearing your nice setup'. he said that the RP5 will still amaze you although its wayy smaller and he was right.
next day i went to guitar center and tested it at their place and for some reason it sounded like crap (maybe wiring). i didnt hesitate buying them. ive been using them for more than a month now and cant believe how many new instruments and sounds i hear in songs. |

Ah good just what I wanted to hear, I think I'm going to go with these!
I been reading all day, and the M-Audio Audiophile USB soundcard looks like what I'm gonna get for that.

You should seriously consider paying out a bit more like 400$usd for a pair of KRK V4's or a maybe pair of Yamaha HS50M's. I use the V4's and they are outstanding. But monitors are a personal choice and you will learn to mix well on any of them with time and practice. |
