Drudge is making the following claim. So what are the implications/ramifications if this is correct? Bueller? Bueller?

WASH POST's Ben Bradlee Claims Plame Leaker Was Richard Armitage
Mon Mar 13 2006 10:48:34 ET

THE WASHINGTON POST's famous Watergate editor Ben Bradlee claims that it was former State Department Deputy Secretary Richard Armitage who was the individual who leaked the identity of CIA official Valerie Plame.

In the latest issue of VANITY FAIR: "Woodward was in a tricky position. People close to him believe that he had learned about Plame from his friend Richard Armitage, Colin Powell's former deputy, who has been known to be critical of the administration and who has a blunt way of speaking. 'That Armitage is the likely source is a fair assumption,' former WASHINGTON POST editor Ben Bradlee said."

'I had heard about an e-mail that was sent that had a lot of unprintable language in it.'"

Two things:

1. It's Drudge. Sometimes he has the inside scoop. Other times he reports the biggest innuendo and rumors as headlines without merit.

So pass the salt.

2. If it is true, it's hard to speculate at this point. Powell did have access to that coveted memo with Plame's name on it as he was going into Air Force One a coupla weeks before Novak broke the story, so it's certainly plausible one of his boys helped sprung a leak.

It's an interesting twist, but it also doesn't explain much about Libby's deliberate lies to the grand jury, nor does it explain Cheney's actions of giving him the information to out Plame either. Those two issues are damn hard to ignore, along with Rove being another known leaker to Cooper.

This whole thing is a ing pretzel.

I hope there is a serious investigation of possible treason after the November elections.

It doesn't matter who the leak came from, they should be prosecuted. Of course if there is some legal liability for leaking Plame's name (which there should be) rather than what Libby is charged with, lying to investigators, that would mean Rove would probably be first on the chopping block. Therefore even if Armitage were guilty of leaking Plame's name I doubt we're going to see any political push for it (from Republicans).

I'm so glad I don't have to follow this one :wtf:

I agree with Opus, one big frickin' pretzel it is!
