Traktor Midi setup question

So Im trying to customize my setting for Traktor. Im trying to set my hotkeys or whatever they are called and I see a MIDI option that looks pretty in depth, as opposed to the keyboard one. What kind of MIDI device do you need for this. Also, does anybody use this program with just the keyboard shortcuts, and if so can you give me some hints as to how to set it up? Thanks.

I use it with an M-Audio Evolution X-Session UC-17. I luvs it:

There are other Midi boxes that are popular, such as the FaderFox.

I don't use the keyboard much, but some people assign various keys to Traktor functions.

Try having a look thru the Native Instruments Traktor forum for more info.

i use traktor 2.53 with an external mixer.
i've assigned hotkeys for the 'cue/play', '+/- tempo, +/- pitch bend,
loop in/out, shorten loop, lengthen loop, and each individual loop command.
Deck a goes on the left, deck b goes to the right.
Eq's and faders are controlled by the mixer.
Track selection and filters are controlled via touchpad.
thats about it.

In your case, you'll need an external sound card with minimum 4 outputs like the M-Audio Audiophile Firewire and the proper cables.

I'm running my external mixer through my desktop 7.1 card through the quadrophonic speaker function.
