you think beat matching is hard now?
go pick up two songs with alternating beats, such as
hooligan - hear me now
creamer and k - i love you (hybrid mix)
and try to mix those!!!
haha no well beat matching just takes practice you need to train your ears.. try closing your eyes and concentrating on the two different beats...
when i really get into a mix i kind of feel the beat internally.. so even when there isnt a beat playing cuz a song is breaking down, i can still roughly match the beats cuz i feel it. the other day i wound up subconsciously breating to the beats.. it was funny i was beat matching great but i kept getting light headed and after an hour and a half my head hurt!
haha i love music

I think my biggest problem in learning to beatmatch was not understanding how crucial the release of the cue'd record is, and how important it is to work in the mindset of bars of 16 or 32 beats.
Quick advise would be start your record, cue up the other track to the start of a set of beats. Hold the cued track in that position and count the beats on the record playing (1,2,3,4 etc.). While you're counting in your head, try and release the cued track just as you count 8 in your head so they hit at the same time. Then listen and if the playing tracks runs away, figure out if your cued track needs to be altered up or down in pitch and go from there and start over. |
