Felix Da Housecat Show Kicked It Proper!!

That show kicked ASS. Mainly due to locals who kept Felix going an extra hour or so past when he was to stop playing. The people at meridian (Shelby / Dneta /Pixie / The Bob/ Mike/ Andy/ Gary / and all the stay late bartenders and bar backs, especially that cool as shiznit sound guy who kept the floor rockin till wee hours), Donnie, Pedro, Akil, Neil Heller, Chris and George at nightfunctions, Travis / Frank / Stuart / Tracy at the Houston Press, Wes at houston beats, Asif and Scott at MKULTRA, Dave and Pete, DIZZLE, Bobby Bui, Julie and Courtney the not so teenager teenagers, El Nino Greg, Martin, Joe, and especially the local crowd of supporters for 77002, and of course our local djs who ripped it up (more on that below).. The crowd all came out and was tight.. Felix said he couldn't stop spinnin and kept on cause he said the crowd was just kickin! * Felix also wished me to give you all his love and give you all massive props for being such a crazy fun crowd.. and that he loves Houston.
Massive props to you all who came out Saturday to Felix Da Housecat show... and you all came out ready to rock full force. It was very obvious that the place was hummin with a great vibe all night. Felix himself felt it so much he decide he had to play to this crowd regardless of how he was illin. What you might not know was he showed up to the gig feeling really sick. It took him a little while to be ready, and a few short stage exits, but still as he listened to the crowd and the opening DJs, he started feeling better and then went on himself.. Not only was Felix feeling very VERY ill, he went on and rocked it non stop for 3 plus hours..Now that a pro! Yet by the end of the set he was feeling fine and wanting to keep on til the break of dawn.. Which the after party ended up just like that as various peeps kept on going at Lucky Charms after party from spoiled boyz and at Felix's own special sumpin sumpin party which went on til like 7 or 8am.. hell i don't remember exactly.. but it seems Electro music can improve your health.. as Felix arrived pale and very sick and left looking like a champ.
That vibe and groove he felt when he arrived was a direct result due to the ing kick ass local DJs we have in this city who know how to do it right.
Those crazy decknicians the Night Architeks had both the main room and the VIP room jammin! They first went on early in the main room, and then late night in the VIP room. They threw down perfect sets, as you well know, on both sides... Even when Felix was finished, left the stage, Night Architeks member Dave Farrell still had a floor jumpin in the VIP room almost a half hour after Felix went off and the club main room was empty. The VIP room DJs in general were amazing, not sure how much of each set you guys caught, but Ben Clark, Night Architeks, special guest Ian Allister, and none other than the Brotha Jibril himself all held down stonking smooth sets of upfront house in there. Ben Clark is a well known house head who always throws down proper. He has a very special feel for grooves and puts together really tight sets full of interesting and new tracks every time. Always someone to catch on deck when you can. Of course Brotha Jibril was in da house, and as usual laid out a set of tracks so sharp so smooth it is almost a crime. Jibril takes music seriously, and is knee deep in house music vibe at all times. If you hear his sets you know this maaaaan. Big ups to him being a part of this night. A secret bomb was the special set thrown down by Ian Allister. This funky stonkin Decknician showed up and held down the tough stuff, playing the VIP room when Felix was in full force.. yet still he held his own, dropped some tight tracks, and kept the VIP room feeling funky rhythm, the more you feel it, the more you want it...
What's really tight about the VIP rooms Djs that night is not only did they throw down on the decks back there in the VIP room, but then they came to the main room and threw down on the dance floor all night as well. Crazy man. That's a house head for ya. Playing tight tracks then grooving all night on the other side of the decks as well. Much Respek!
The main room had some very special things going on for us personally. First we are always proud to introduce local talent to a main stage event like this one. This time it was special as three of our favorite local DJs we had lined up for playing the Main Stage in a first 77002 main room appearance. It all started off with the Night Architeks (Peter Sajche and David Farrell.) Not only are these two guys top notch music heads and producer / studio junkies, but they lived up to their name by laying out a proper set of house music tracks to start off building up the night. They are true architeks in they allowed for the rest of the night room to build masterpiece on their well laid out foundation. These guys have some production in the works so keep an eye out for them on your favorite download or record store.
Next on decks after those two was one of our other favorite locals. A DJ we suggest you keep in your focus who goes by the name SEVER. This guy has been throwing down sets with myself and at some of our Tastylick events for a while now , along with his many other underground house parties at various clubs and joints but we wanted to hear him on the main stage and in full volume. What a SIIIIIICK set he threw down. This guy hoppin and boppin all over the decks like a crazed house music scientist mixing up one of the tightest sets. I rarely like to go on the stage unless i wish to see what's going on and get a closer view, he had me up there 3 times. The man is one of the finest, both on deck and in person. Respect Sever.
Then came the bombamanda. We all have heard of Amanda Robinson from various events or local parties, and if you havent then its time you get with it maaaaan. She has rocked many floors in the underground recently and has been a part of the Rent parties for some time now.. but we wanted to put her out front, in spotlight, on OUR main stage and also directly in line with one of the masters of House Felix himself. We know she rocks it, weren't worried about her a bit, more excited to hear her add to the night at this crucial timeslot than anything... Amanda we know as an audiophile that rocks a floor, a true house head, and someone that we can count on to not be wavered from good music at any cost..... what we didn't know was she has been holding back on everyone. What she threw down, all those amazing tracks, and butter mixes, was one helluva long tall super solid set to witness. Those who were grooving to her for two hours knowhatimean. That lady of house threw it down and had the crowd cheering, shaking, sweating, and grooving in perfect time. True beauty is within and it shows up on the decks every time, but it doesn't hurt that she is also easy on the eyes as well as the ears. Great to see her shine true and through with kickin ass on this night a bringing us a night of wonderful music and a great vibe.
Now of course the DJs are tops, we love them.. but it aint nuthin without YOU. And from the bottom of our house beating hearts we thank you all for coming out to the 77002 Felix party Saturday. I do appreciate all the thanks and love shown from you all here in the various myspace messages, and in person at the events from those who are appreciative regarding our bringing talent to the city like we do.. but really, nothing happens without YOU. Thanks for being there in such great numbers and being such a wonderful fun crowd.
I look forward to seeing you all at more events this spring.
Pics from the event were taken by our fav photo people Brandon Holley, that man with the long lens, and a very special art photographer who came equipped and took a good round of shots as well. They will be up on our site asap. See you at the next go round with Shy FX and then DIGWEED next week or so.
UP THE IRISH!

I agree that the Felix show was lots of fun. I didn't know what to expect besides some electro sounds, but he put down some great remixes of classic tracks that had the crowd loving it.
And I actually got to hear some good electronic tracks that I love that I never hear anywhere else in town. I was impressed with the house DJ before Felix, Amanda, I believe.
Bring on Diggers! |

Ok, so first: Absolutely awesome time. It was the first time I'd ever actually gotten to see Felix, after conflict on top of conflict kept preventing me from doing so before. I couldn't get there 'til later, but I caught about the last hour or so of Amanda's set, and the floor was already moving. Felix started off well, but MAN did that set build. Some stuff I remember him playing [in no order]:
Silver Screen
Jack U
Miss Kittin & The Hacker - Frank Sinatra 2001
LCD Soundsystem - Tribulations (Tiga's Out of the Trance Closet Remix)
Fischerspooner - Emerge
Metroarea - Miura
Vitalic - La Rock 01 [either that or My Friend Dario (Felix da Housecat Remix)...I can't remember which one...maybe both]
Prodigy - Firestarter
Green Velvet - La La Land (Original Mix)
Also, remixes of:
Nirvana - Lithium
Marilyn Manson - Beautiful People
[the debate continues over whether he played the Marilyn Manson or Eurhythmics version of Sweet Dreams]
Blur - Song 2 (Ivan Gough & Grant Smillie Mix)
...and, at some point during that last hour:
A Number of Names - Shari Vari (The Hacker & Vitalic Remix)
There are a bunch of other ones I think I remember hearing (I think Sasha's remix of Watching Cars Go By was in there, too), but I'd end up guessing.
Somewhere around 2:00, either he planned on changing it up, or he just read the place perfectly, but he just started throwing down gigantic tracks, one after another, and a lot of great old ones. That might not work all the time, but that place was just primed and ready to explode, and I think almost everybody there was just kind of hoping he would do exactly that, so when he did, it just went nuts.
For me, the highlight was definitely Shari Vari. It was always one of my favorites from those mixes of his from years back that originally got me interested in EDM, but I just thought there was no WAY I would ever actually hear it live. Hearing Felix drop it at that point in the night, when it was just insane in there already, just made it that much better. Needless to say, I got a little excited.
However he was feeling when he went up there, he still managed to put on a fantastic show. I'm glad to hear he enjoyed it, because I know we were having an absolute blast. I can't say I can think of many nights where I've just had that much flat out fun. After all of that, add on the fact that he bothered to stick around afterwards chatting, taking pictures, & signing stuff (even more impressive, now knowing he was sick). I stuck around for a while after he finished up, thanked him, took a picture, then talked with his manager for a couple minutes while Felix went down the line. I realized that after that day and that night, another party would most likely be the death of me, so I decided to head back with some friends, & walked out of there exhausted & with a big stupid grin on my face. I just kept going over that last hour or so in my head 'til we got back...and then more after that. I went having absolutely no clue as to what kind of crowd I should expect, but the energy in there was just incredible, and he just kept pushing it right up 'til the very end.
A lot of great memories taken away from that one. Exceeded expectations & just an awesome night. Thanks to Sean & all those people you mentioned for making it happen...
...Now let's do it again! |
