im for sure less than there is electronic music that is not dance music.

Yeah tribal drumming in africa and aborigine and native american tribes (or any cultures like them). That would be considered dance music, in it's purest, rawest..oldest form. There is also A LOT of electronic music that is not dance music as well. There are also plenty of old western music that is dance music, minuets were big in the classical era, and jazz was considered a form of dance music. There's a lot actually...

i should have specified, current dance music :P

what you listed were some of the precursers to the scene and music we have today. (saying that time is a reality lets me say they are precursers and not companion musics)

ill send you some research i have done on the subject in a few weeks

I never coined EDM and never liked that term since I first heard it, although I do use it on occasion.

I've always called it "electronic music".

Just because you don't listen to them anymore doesnt mean people suddenly stopped playing jazz, and the tribes put down their drums.

Dance music is not just electronic.

Exactly. But many forms of "dance music" have also turned into non dance music, as in the case or rock and jazz...

People still dance to them, so I would consider them dance music.

I also think that's best. "EDM" just confuses people who don't really know what it is (or think it's all called techno). Electronic music is also more accurate since maybe not all music typically classified as 'EDM' is meant to be 'danced' to, or good to dance to for that matter.

why not refer to all EDM as House Music?

kinda like... house dressing, everybody likes it:rolleyes:

The only reason why 'eedjum' has stuck around is because no one's managed to come up with a better tag. Anyone who listens to this stuff long enough knows 'techno' is silly (nu-jazz is techno?) and no one who listens to this stuff likes the term 'electronica' (silly rock journalists).

'Electronic music' is as clear-cut as it gets, but too combersume for everyday discussion. Hence, why EDM seems to be sticking, since it rolls off the tongue better than EM (which could mean anything).
