The questions suck because it doesnt specify Legal or Illegal, and a YES or NO question wont do it. Legal immigrants should be able to work and be treated as regular Americans in most cases, of course there will be some restrictions, but most legal immigrants here dont have any problems.

My answer might be biased but considering that myself & many of my friends are immigrants ( to alot of different countries ) I think that immigration is good if done in a practical, responsible way, with politics kept out of the process. I think immigration should be done on a case by case basis. My own immigrant friends are for the most part quite wealthy & got there through university, college & hard work. And in my current community & previous in Windsor, ON ( Windsor people reply, I always see you on TOTA )immigrants have added significantly to the cultural & economic makeup of the community. In the Windsor region there are thousands of jobs in the Leamington area takin by latino immigrants brought over because much of the local labor force would rather collect welfare than work. I should know, one of my best friends had to bring people from Mexico to fill his positions. It was very easy, the government already knows there is a shortage in a good labor pool in that area and is pretty liberal in handing out work visas there. Also my former employers in the same area hired mostly latino immigrants to do the labour. While I was working in sales, they couldn't find any Canadians to do the other jobs. Not only did the immigrant laborers work harder in general, they mostly had better personalities and saved their money better rather than spend it on party favors.

The reason I believe in case by case basis immigration is:

1) If an immigrant can prove that they are hard working or highly educated in a profession which is lacking in qualified individuals ( such as doctors ) and can provide documented proof of that and references, then they are good for America and should be permitted to reside in the U.S. The fact that they are here is the failure of their own country to provide a decent life. If there is a brain drain in a certain country ( ex. the highly educated populace in Guatemala leaving for the U.S. because their fed up with the Government failing to provide basic necessities )then that is their country's problem & our gain. Advanced English studies, continous employment, Military service, high grade point average in school, paying taxes, and passage of tests on U.S. history etc. should help with the decision.

2) If someone is uneducated with no skills then they are likely to do no better here with our high cost of living. Also anyone that gets racks up a crime record should be immediatly deported after they have served their time.
