every experienced player will tell you that it is gambling and you do need some luck, you can have all the skill in the world and still get rivered by some lucky chump for all your cash.....I've seen it hundreds of times at all levels, wpt events, casinos, home games

Every experienced player will tell you it is a skill game. There is luck involved, obviously ... its a card game. If you had the proper read, when you got rivered, you wouldn't lose all your cash. Hence the skill.

yes it takes skill/proper read....but in the end it's a gamble, all you can you do is maximize your odds...unless you're capable of making everyone fold thus making you win...otherwise....5 random cards over which no one has control dictate the game

I'm not a player, but i understand why people love it so much....
But to watch it on TV? Ridiculous imo:rolleyes:
Meh, to each his/her own

I don't see the appeal in any card game, to be honest.

Does absolutely nothing for me.

It is ridiculous, however, I just watched Celebrity Poker for two hours out of sheer procrastination. And I don't even know how to play poker, much less any card game. I'm even bad at Solitaire.

gimme 2 girls, a deck of cards and i'll glady play
"strip [ insert random card game here]"

but besides that, card games don't really appeal to me as well. But card tricks are cool! ^_^

chuck norris can win every time he plays. ;) He doens't even have to play, he just looks at the cards and they win for him. sometimes he points his finger and yells 'boooya' and then wins.

Poker is a skill, its not GAMBLING!!!

YOu are betting money..that is gambling regardless if it takes skill or not.

For me it started two years ago, playing random poker games with my older brother and his friends. They invited me to take my money, which was usually all the time, until I started learning how to play and began beating them more often. I play alot, especially when I work full time and can afford to place a proper bankroll. When im not working or at school, I stay away from the tables and just practice on my game whenever i get some spare cash to throw around. For the most part, I have accomplished alot of my reading other people and learning the mathematical aspect of poker. While it involves alot of skill, it is gambling, and thats what people have to remember in the end. I guess when I show up at a poker table, I really do have a disregard for money, because in the end, you have to earn every penny, and have to be willing to loose everything infront of you in the flash of a card. I wouldnt suggest this game for those with an addictive personality, or those without self restraint.

There's only 1 poker game worthwhile and that's Strip Poker!
