Global Gathering 2006

So did anybody else have a chance to check this party out? I must say I enjoyed myself. Here is a personal recap...

I don't particularly care for the Bicentennial Park. The geography of the land is much less interesting in a big open landscape. Oh well...

New Times New Talent Stage

I apologize to all the new young talent out there but I didn't check this stage out. Sorry guys :-( I'm sure you did great!

Biscayne Tent

I unfortunately did not get a chance to check out this tent too much either. I did not arrive early enough to see Deep Dish, but I heard they did a fantastic job. I'm not sure how Roger and Steve did, but the sound system in that tent was above average. Maybe a bit too much high end in some places but overall decent.

Global Beats Tent

I stopped in and out here a few times. The sound system in this tent was not very good. The bass was solid, but it was muffled by a lack of high end. I caught the beginning of Freeland's set but was not very impressed. He's a great guy, but I really wasn't feeling his tunes. A bit later I came by to check out Freq Nasty and OMG. I was only there for 30-45 minutes but every song he dropped was amazing. Great breaks from him imo. I was surprised how low populated that tent was. Maybe it was more crowded during the day but at night it was very empty. Freq's set was very good though :-)

Downtown Stage

Great sound system here. You have to find the right places to dance though otherwise you'll be overloaded with bass. I found the sweet spot right in the middle halfway back and it sounded terrific. I really did not care for Sasha and Digweed's set, but many people seemed to like it. Regardless of what I thought, it was a good warm-up. Armin did a fantastic job as usual. He is one of those people I just enjoy watching because he loves what he does so much. Good set by Armin imo.

After Armin, came my hero, Ferry Corsten. I have always loved this man, and last night, he made me absolutely speechless. He went on banging Ferry Corsten style, but instead of going off on tangents like he usually does with his feel, he kept it rockin'; one stormer right after another. It was not only his music that amazed me. His body pulsed with the music so much that the turntables next to him were shaking vigorously. I could feel as much energy coming from him as I felt from the speakers. He interacts and connects with the crowd so well, I don't see how it’s possible not to love him. The foam was a good addition even though it lasted a bit too long. Great set by Ferry though, and he made that show worth the money to me.

Overall

I had a great time overall. The electronic crowd seemed pretty thin for such a good lineup, I'm not sure what the cause of that was, but it was far from a flop.

Traffic was a nightmare. I live near Pompano and 95 was closed. Why they close 95 on a Saturday and on the night of Global Gathering is beyond me. I have no idea what could be so important that it had to be done that night. It’s okay though, after Ferry's set, nothing could ruin my night.

Well, that is my 2 cents worth. I hope everybody had as much fun as I did!

Chris

P.S. If anybody has any pictures or video, please let me know where I can get them! :-) Thanks

I have to agree......Ferry brought it down!!!!!!!!! Armin was kick-ass though!! It was kinda funny when Armin had some technical difficulties during mixing in to Shivers(Alex M Dub)......The CD player just stopped!! Everybody was chanting "Armin", and then he played it again. But other than that, his mixing was phenomenal as usual. He played some kick ass tunes!!!! Shivers, Control Freak(SVD), KVA-Walk Down(KvA dub)(ing awesome tune!!!!)........he played many other killer tunes! Ferry just downright owned the night. Fire, Kiksu, Loud Electronic Ferocious(First time hearing it.......awesome tune!!) And of course......ended with Punk!!! I was front and center for the whole evening, beginning with Sasha & Diggers(who also kicked ass!!) By the end of the night I was tired and had a terrible headache from drinking all day! I had an awesome time, and can't wait til next week when I get to see the guys all over again, but with longer better sets!!!

i got there pretty early, 12:30 or so, but i wasn't really feeling it till edgar v on the downtown stage. man, he hit the ground running. a short 45 min later it was george acosta. between him and mr v, i have not heard such a solid pure trance set in a long time.

uberzone was playing live and it would be a crime to miss a live act. in the half an hour in the middle i dropped by the biscayne tent for a little deep dish. what i hears was good, but i've never heard them playing before. the one odd thing were the couple of nazi skinheads. they showed up for a while and did the salute thing before leaving.

uberzone live was awesome, simply amazing. after that it was back to the downtown stage for the crystal method dj set. it was full of energy. i skipped the sasha and digweed set 'cause i'll be seeing them in new york later and went to see evil nine and adam freeland. i really enjoyed those sets. breaks are a new thing for me and those guys put on some good music.

after that it was combination of rennie pilgrem, armin, steve lawler and corsten. i didn't hear too much of the pilgrem set. it's too bad there were so few people at the breaks stage. armin needs a new playlist. steve lawler was at the biscayne tent that the organizers set up on bare ground there was so much dust in the air that it was hard to breathe, so instead i went to see corsten. he put on a solid dark progressive set.

i took some pics and video, i have 2gb of data to sort through, by the end of the week i'll post links.

i'm gonna take a nap, i got off the plane 2 hrs ago.

lets see, i got there early so i'll tell you what i saw...

Got there early, Ivano was the only thing worth listening to at that time. he did ok..

after that, went to the downtown stage for Edgar V & Acosta back to back. They did an awesome job as expected. Edgar only got a 45 min. time slot and GA got an hour ftw??!! But great sets nonetheless

after that, back to the house tent for some deep dish. OMFGWTF, they tore it up. The energy in that tent was great and the sound system enhanced the experience even more. Hah even Relik was dancing!

After that came a fluff period where we kinda walked around. The Crystal Method were playing at the time but I didn't like it one bit.

Roger Sancez was up next back in the house tent. He did a great job but i could not finish seeing his set because...

Sasha & Digweed... My thoughts after seeing them were a bit mixed. It almost sounded like they were playing techy-progressive house during their set(2 hours). It was wierd because it actually sounded good and the crowd was enjoying it. Just not what i expected...

Armin came on next and he did a great job.

Ferry came on next and just destroyed the place. Great track selection and the energy coming from him was great as my friend before me mentioned. The foam shooting into the crowd during part of his set was cool and a bit unexpected. There was a part where i thought the sound system was messing up but it was that they had fireworks shooting into the sky behind the stage. All in all, by far the best set of the day from any tent was this one.

P.S. Groove Eric was great at Nocturnal that night. Tho he didn't start til 4:30. anyway. that is all. I need to go lay back down =0)

I am a die hard trance fan and I have to say that Sasha & Digweed stole the show for me... OMFG they rocked my world! Ending the set with Eurythmics "Sweet Dreams" was brilliant!

Does anyone know the track that Armin opened with? OMFG, it was amazing. I haven't heard it in any of his ASOT's... so I'm clueless.
Dj_Sunshine
Yeah, ending with Sweet Dreams was cool!!!! That opening track was killer!!! Dont know what it was though...
